Re: To much 'perfection'...Not enough 'flaws'

Bland examples are easier to name for male examples because of that whole sexism thing. Most of the time a male lead will be made as plain and average as possible so that dudes can superimpose themselves in the place of the guy who's actually in the series. I was thinking the same thing, but, being...

Re: To much 'perfection'...Not enough 'flaws'

The phrase "Does it make money?" comes to mind. If you can create a story with average-looking people, and *sell it* to an audience in forms such as television and major motion pictures, then you're doing something right. I'm trying to think if there are any recent, well-known series in w...

Re: Using real life cultures/locations is appropriation?

The problem with using fictional ideas is that they are inevitably going to be based on real life ideas. So for example, a writer plans a story that takes place in a fantastical 18th century Europe-like location but with fictional ideas that are noticeably influenced by modern day USA culture. Or n...

Re: Get that thing off your chest... Now...

Thanks for the reassurance and concern guys! I do have an emergency kit put together already, I was in the Army Cadet Force, Girl Scouts, and at one point trained as an Emergency Responder, so the idea of having a go-bag filled with sorely needed emergency items is drilled into my mind. Everybody, d...

Re: Educational VNs - your thoughts?

Thank you everyone who has replied. :) I think in the interest of not boring players to death with presentation of facts, I'll make more of a game out of it, presenting historical facts, and materials such as photos, as additional extras linked to at relevant points in the game, and collected togeth...

Re: Get that thing off your chest... Now...

My area has a tornado watch in effect for the next five and a half hours. I'm already scared of thunderstorms as it is. This is the first tornado watch I remember having been issued for my area of the US since I moved here. I am seriously freaking out. Should I be grabbing my dog's leash just in cas...

Re: Educational VNs - your thoughts?

Ideally, I would be looking at doing something historical, perhaps providing the player with a fictional third person to play, rather than playing one of two actual historic figures, in a rather famous race, though I'm loathe to reveal much more than that at this time.

Re: [Tutorial] Customizing the Textbox

Hi! This tutorial is working great for me. I just have one question, particularly about using Shift+I to find the properties. I would like to change the font values for renpy.input. However, when I click Shift+I on the input screen, it just puts a capital I in the input box. xD What is the correct ...

Educational VNs - your thoughts?

Though I've yet to finish even one VN, I've been inspired by aqua.soo's educational math RPG , and umechan's Arcticus Somnia . But I have a few questions... How close to the truth should an educational VN be? Would you prefer the actual facts to be presented within the story, or as an extra? Would y...

Re: Do you ever feel like your game is not good enough?

I do experience it. In fact, I'm the worst kind of perfectionist. I'm very self-defeating. I've had to learn how to accept 'good-enough', and part of what pushed me into beginning to accept it was actually taking part in a competition on deviantart. On the day before the last image was due, my compu...

Re: How did you get into anime?

I was sitting at home, minding my business, relaxing after school, and then this bright, loud cartoon with a guy catching animals and making them fight for him came on, and the logo in the bottom right of the screen changed. Okay, I thought, this is completely different from everything I've ever see...

Re: :( yup me again, how to display a stats screen?

For making screens, you need http://www.renpy.org/doc/html/screens.html On hiding the stats until you find everyone, you'll need to set a variable for meeting each character. This should go at the start of your game. $ metchar1 = False $ metchar2 = False Then, when you meet the character, you set th...

Re: How to loop sound effects?

I think you have to define another sound channel that works like a music channel.
