Re: Lycoris [S/LGBT/A] [Otome] [Supernatural/Romance]

Those two have been busy with their school work, so rather than putting extra stress on them or being the only one dedicating time to the project, I'm putting this on hold for a little bit. I mentioned a while ago that I was going to work on much smaller games for practice at some point between Lyco...

Re: i don't feel safe anymore with gaming culture

The solution, I think, is radical openness. We should welcome games we'll never play. We should welcome games we dislike. We should even welcome the games that actively offend us. 10/10. I really agree with this. There have always been people with their laces tied a little tight who think books, mo...

Re: i don't feel safe anymore with gaming culture

For instance, could we build a feedback circle that can look through other peoples' writing for things that may be problematic (e.g. racist slurs that might not be obvious to the person writing it)? I'd recommend against such an idea because what's considered problematic is subjective. For an examp...

Re: How to Add Depth to Character

I characterize in a really round-about way since I have a lot of time at night to develop them, but the basic jist of it boils down to thinking of them like real people. I think the best way to characterize them is to just stop thinking of them as characters. Don't go scouring the dictionary to figu...

Re: Word overuse

I think it's important to switch words up, especially verbs. I find it really obvious when you're reading something that's incredibly repetitive (without trying to be). It's one thing if it says, "He just kept running, and running, and running..." for emphasis, but when it's spaced out in ...

Re: Copyright Question

Quick note, remember that you generally need to publish the full version before you copyright it. Preregistration can be done for unpublished or partially released works, but it's expensive ($140 - ouch), and you need to register it again after it's published anyway if you do that. "Does the co...

Re: When making OCs and their backstory just....

O hello there, old thread. I find it frustratingly unrealistic when all the characters in a story (especially when it's a modern day slife, gah) have some deep dark angsty past, but I'm guilty of giving a lot of characters more grim backgrounds. I usually don't notice how bad it is until I really st...

Re: What do you want to see more of in EVNs?

I don't really get where does this idea that there're only (or at least A LOT) Japanese high school romance projects come from? I don't think anyone said there were only those games, but there definitely are a lot of them. The ones here on the LSF are mostly buried in the archives since we do have ...

Re: What do you want to see more of in EVNs?

The #1 thing I'd like to see more of in EVN's are stories that take place in America and have unbiased culture to them. As much as I love anime, I'm tired of seeing school romances that take place in Japanese private schools with stereotypical leads and Japanese cultural references. America is huge....

Congrats on getting to your stretch goals :3

If I picked my top three from the list, it'd be alternate poses, more endings, and more complex action sequences (in that order).

Re: Lycoris [S/LGBT/A] [Otome] [Supernatural/Horror/Romance]

Here's the week two recap since I'll be busy tomorrow through Sunday for The Homeless Game Jam . I'm hoping to make a short KN around the theme; I'll post it here if it's any good ;3 cleaning the house ;_; Progress From 8/22 - 8/29 Most of the work this week was behind-the-scenes nonsense. I made th...

Re: Research tips about Japan.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but is it really vital to have the story take place in Japan? It's difficult writing about a real location from modern times outside of your own culture, especially when you've never visited the place. It seems to me that too many stories from the anime community jump ...

Re: Do you play as same or opposite gender?

I mix up the genders I play as. If the optional characters have different backstories or plots, I'll play whichever one I find more interesting. When it comes to romance games, I'll only play xB paths, but I'll play as either a girl or boy. For RPGs, I play as a girl to dress her up and get the uniq...
