Re: Quick Time Events in Visual Novels

I'm okay with minor QTEs, like "Press SPACE to dodge, or get hit in the face by a flying pie"

I'm not so cool with stuff like "Press SPACE or face instant death!"

Re: Advice For New Producers & Team Leaders?

As a producer for game projects, I spent most of my time finding and solving communication problems. Different departments might not communicate with each other, and the same might occur even between members of the same team. In one case, a 3D environment artist had to spend an entire day from each ...

Re: Physical Copies of Your Games?

I would like to say that for the past 10 years, few computers are actually made with a CD-player of any kind. The majority of devices being laptops, web-books and tablets. For physical devices, I would think about USB-flash distributions. Almost every device has a USB port of some kind. (Almost... ...

We're thinking "Video Game Developers"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_developer

Basically, anyone who does anything for the sake of creating a video game.

We're all developers! I agree that it might be nice to have a subforum for Coding/programming, though

Re: Tools for Game Jams, Sprints, and other Projects

I've used Slack in that fashion (mainly the communication side of productivity). It's good to keep an "off-topic" or "random" channel to handle stuff that's unrelated to the project. Trello and Jira (not necessarily together) have worked well for task tracking.

Re: Players Problem

I think the medium features some strengths of video games, shows/movies, and novels. Visual novels may feature interactivity, from occasional story choices to very complex gameplay. They also support visuals (from stills to full animation), screen transitions, special effects, sound effects, and voi...

Re: Options to be alone in an otome game

Girl realizes that she's not really interested in relationships. She goes on to study science and engineering, developing an "Iron Man" like suit. Unwilling to trust anyone with the tremendous power of the suit, she wears it herself, single-handedly destroying warlords and dictators across the globe.

Re: Question about ratings

In the U.S. you can have plenty of T&A + decapitations/dismemberment galore with an ESRB M (17+) rating. Just look at the Witcher games. 18+ doesn't need to come into play until you need MORE than just T&A + decapitations/dismemberment. Japan's stricter, though- GTA and Witcher are both 18+ here. Br...

Re: What do you think about pixel art for vn?

Pixel art is a tough sell for me. That's not limited to VNs, though. I've played games that could only support four different colors on-screen at once. I feel like I've paid my dues in full :)

Re: How much do you look for assets?

I think "extras" would be nice to have. So many VNs feature weirdly unpopulated environments. An extras pack could have stuff like shopkeepers, two neighbors chatting, kids playing, businessperson on the phone, person walking a dog, person fixing a bicycle, and other selections to make a scene feel ...

Follower retention was decent. We tried to avoid getting spammy with posts/emails, though. Many posts announced contests or simple giveaways, which encouraged people to stay on the lists.

Re: Enticing players to do something for extras in game

For some online PlayStation 3 games, we ran campaigns for Facebook likes/follows. If you typed in your Facebook account ID at an in-game terminal, it would check the account to see if you "liked" the game, unlocking a cosmetic item and a little bit of in-game currency. These campaigns got us thousan...
