Re: Writing with Emojis

Yeah, it's a nice technique! I've noticed that for as much discussion there is of the art and writing of visual novels, there doesn't seem to be a lot of attention paid to the creative effort that goes into the actual blocking of scenes, which is more than just a pure programming exercise. It's nic...

Re: Writing with Emojis

I think it's cute. I've seen a number of games, too, where they use expressions for a main character along side a dialogue box, which has a similar effect. (With that said, I think I'd prefer this if characters were texting.) Oh! These don't make it to the actual game, it's just for the draft of wr...

Re: Art Dumpage! Show your art ^^

Playing around with a potential simpler style for sprites, not quite happy with the anatomy on this but it's not for anything so eh.

Writing with Emojis

I've been testing out a way of writing that helps me visualize how much the sprites will help sell the emotion of a scene. It's helped me gauge when I might need more or less description, or dial it back on the dialogue. It also helps to see if character voices are distinct enough that you can tell ...

Re: Is there any free for used 2D background around for click and navigate game?

If you're just using it to test your code, the 3d backgrounds should work just fine, shouldn't they? It doesn't matter what they look like to determine if they're interacting with the code correctly. With that said, there are def some 2D resources in same board as uncle myugen's stuff, but I don't t...

Re: Black and white or go with flat colors?

I think the rougher inks look nicer over the digital ones, have a bit more of that hand-drawn quality that's lost when you ink. As for colors, right now, your black and white definitely looks better than the color. However, I think there's potential for your stuff to look okay colored. Right now you...

Re: Endelwyn: Drawn to You (WIP) [G x B][Romance][Fantasy]

I love how expressive your sprites are so far! A lot of games just use those small expression changes because it's easier to account for and swap sprites out, but you're going all out with the expressions!

Exaggerating Characters for Readability

I've noticed something of a trend in visual novels, at least the popular ones. Mostly it's that visual novels seem to lean on tropes and exaggeration to define their characters a lot. Character's tend not to just be shy, they're stuttering messes when confronted with social interaction. They're not ...

Re: Red Embrace: Hollywood [Vampire][Dark][GxB/BxB/NBxB]

Damn, the artwork on this so far is really top notch, not just in clean execution, but I think it really conveys the mood you're going for so far! I wonder if you've taken any inspiration from World of Darkness vampires? I get those vibes, but that might just be because it's the form of vampire medi...

Re: How to keep artists committed?

I know this thread has been quiet, but I thought I might offer another solution for you. Have you thought of ordering each step of the sprites as a single group, rather than the sprites individually? IE: Instead of ordering (sketch + line art + color)x10, instead order 10 sketches, and then 10 line ...

Re: What do you think about combining digital art characters with traditional art BGs?

I think they work okay as-is, but there's a few things I think could improve their cohesion! Right now they do clash a tiny bid, with the traditional backgrounds being more textured and rough, and the digital art being very bright and clean. I would suggest two things. The first, is to reduce the sa...

Re: Synthetic Lover [Sci-fi, Drama with Romance, Yaoi] 18+

I'm really digging the general art direction here, from the sound to the backgrounds to the sprites! Love the range of futuristic styles you have going on, from the more familiar and practical to stuff that definitely looks like crazy future fashion trends. I'm definitely keeping my eye on this!
