There is no max or minimum amount of time. Also the number of instruments used to it can make it to take a longer to make it. Recording take time and the amount of work that you mentioned is ok. Like anybody have already said, the mic is the thing you need. High end software are not required for decent to good recordings. Audacity is pretty much a solid software for recordings and have all the basic tools, and have compatibility for VST, so it can use others tools for editing the recordings...

For those who want to add features in atom, there's are useful packages.
Minimap is one of them and is the same as sublimetext one. It can be added other packages for more function:

This look interesting. The autocomplete add-on make it very nice feature. It's a little heavy in cpu while opening it, and scrolling compared to others code editors, but that is easily understandable because is based in chromium. The developers are actively updating and the change log is always with...
