Re: Drawing anime with a mouse
It's honestly really hard on your hands. I used to do it a lot when I was younger and didn't have a tablet, your joints hurt even if you use vector tools. If you're aiming for really clean lineart, vector tools are your friend, but they are super nit-picky, depending on the program you're using. Usi...

Re: Protagonists in Dating Games Are Too Unrealistic?
-snip- That sad part, I think, and the part that makes this such an issue of contention, is that it can be done well. I've played more than a few games that were ostensibly dating sims without some or even most of the typical flaws. And even if I can't think of a perfect example off the top of my h...

Re: Of character name and nationality
MMm, well it depends. Is your story taking place on Earth as we know it or some fantasy land? Is it in space? Is it something new? That changes things a lot. If it's in space or something, you can kind of mess with traditional naming schemes, same for fantasy places. Admittedly it depends on the sca...

Re: The role of men in a magical girl narrative
If this thread is basically already done, sorry! I just wanted to add a bit of input. I actually first thought of Princess Tutu after reading your post, the male characters are both sidekicks and main characters in their own right. Neither of the main male characters can transform(well, one can at t...

Re: Protagonists in Dating Games Are Too Unrealistic?
Sorry if I say something that someone else has already said, I just skimmed over the thread after a while because there are a lot of long replies and my head is kinda spinning right now(got a headache somehow like half an hour ago, still hasn't quite left). As someone who's got social anxiety and ha...

Re: Writing Likeable Murderers?
When it comes to likeable murderers, I kind of feel it's really in their personality/how they handle it. I'm not really fond of sympathetic pasts either, they tend to feel a little cheap -- and after a while, they start feeling unrealistic, even if they aren't. There's a lot of factors with a murder...

Re: Huge scope for first project
Ha, I'm kind of in your shoes in a way, OP, with some of the things I'm doing right now. I tend to jump into things without much experience, and unfortunately tend to have pretty big ideals for what I want. Despite lack of experience, my standards for myself don't really shift, so I always expect my...

Re: Writing "Canon" and the Problems of Being "Real"
Personally, I'm not that fond of 'true' endings or routes -- I have a pretty short attention span for replays, so if I have to play a game over and over and over for their 'true' ends, it frustrates me, and true routes do exactly as you said -- I love the side characters or other routes, I don't lik...

Re: Sci-fi: Do you expect alien dates, or human only?
Not gonna lie, my first thought was, 'why would you play a scifi and NOT date the aliens??', but maybe that's just me. I mean, people will be into just about anything, and non-humanoid type stuff can still be appealing so long as it's not like...A vomit pile alien or something. I'm not sure how many...

Re: Question about finishing VS starting a new project
I pretty easily lose motivation, even with things I really want to do -- something about my brain chemistry or something just really doesn't like me working on one thing at a time for too long unless I can finish it in a single sitting. So I've started a system where I rotate working on ideas -- if ...

I second the blue snowball -- I've got one that I bought for ~40 ish dollars on amazon, and it sounds pretty great and is easy to work with.

Re: What was your first story?
gods, it's been so long. I think my first story was probably me writing down a dream and turning it into a story, sort of, but frankly, I can't really remember. I wrote a lot of short things, and the stories I had with my toys were...complicated, I guess. Like tv drama complicated, so a lot of memor...

Re: Who runs VN Review sites?
It might be a bit off-topic; but what're people's feelings on people pulling double-duty as creators and critics? Too risky, or something the community would try to be accepting of? I think it's actually fairly sensible for creators to be critics as well -- it means that you can understand it both ...

How to make a character unlockable?
How would I go about making a character unlockable if the player's achieved any of the other endings -- or just a specific ending? Would I just make a true/false sort of thing or is there a better way of going about it?

Re: Help with multiple endings?
If you want it done subtly, I think that just matters on the story -- you could make it clear after choices, like the reactions of the characters or the after effect of the choice being pretty negative. Or you could bring up the choice the player made a tad later on in the story, to show that it was...
