Help with a code for user-input answers?
I've searched far and wide for a simple way to do this, but to no avail. I feel like this shouldn't be difficult to do on Ren'Py, although I have little experience coding. I have two weeks until I take a placement test at my school and instead of using flashcards, I wanted something where it could g...

Re: How do you guys format your planning?
I have been very pleased with RealtimeBoard over the mind mapping software I've tried. I use a mixture of Google Drive documents and RealtimeBoards. The VN I'm working on now is very time-oriented (eight months), so I use my RealtimeBoard as a huge calendar and then map out which scenes occur on whi...

Re: Of character name and nationality
Honestly, it depends on what kind of setting you are going for. Is it another planet in the distant future? And alt. universe Earth? Another plane of existence? I have a lot of different universes/story worlds and my naming system is dependent on that. In my somewhat distant future that takes place ...

The preview CGs look amazing!Auro-Cyanide wrote: Sketch previews for CGs! Currently sitting at 11/25 for the remaining CGs that need sketching, and then I need to actually ink and colour those 25.
By the way, it was BCMs 4th year anniversary last month. Hilarious hahahaha...ha...ha *lies in a puddle of tears*

Re: Plotting: How long does it take you?
This can be a lengthy and challenging process, because, as you noted, sometimes you have to construct a very specific route from point A to point B that isn't a deus ex machina. Sometimes, writing the "connective tissue" is the hardest part, and in a lot of those cases I'll begin writing ...

Re: Plotting: How long does it take you?
Some people make the mistake of thinking all the ideas come one after the other. And when they don't, they call it "writer's block." The truth is, they don't know what they want in the plot yet. And they don't know, because they haven't tried out other ideas first. It's a process, so you ...

Plotting: How long does it take you?
Just out of curiosity--I was wondering how long everyone spends on their plotting? I love plotting--I love the puzzle-like aspect of connecting scenes together and weaving an intricate story. Even the headache of plot block becomes so rewarding when you finally figure out that certain "a-ha!&qu...

Re: How is your project going (or not going)?
Slowly, but surely. I planned on taking the summer off to work full-time on this project but instead ended up taking a full-time+ job. I end up texting my partner a lot throughout the day with project developments. We've been working on this project since December, but plot block put us at a stand-s...

Re: The issue of leaning left: Tips and Tricks?
My only tip is to literally flip as much as possible. I programmed my Wacom with a horizontal flip button for both Sai and Photoshop and use that button just as much as the zoom feature. Just flip every few minutes or earlier especially in the sketch phase. I flip constantly. Especially when startin...

Re: What are your expectations on VNs with calendars?
I think calendars are one of the best elements you can implement into a visual novel that takes place over three or more months. Great way to give the player a sense of urgency and a good way to add interactivity to the final product; even without interactivity, though, a calendar is a good way to ...

Re: What are your expectations on VNs with calendars?
I think for most games with time-sensitive content, a calendar is a good way to make sure the player has all the information they need to make educated decisions. A lot of VNs are small enough or have limited enough timelines that they're unnecessary, but I think for longer VNs where it's harder to...

Re: What are your expectations on VNs with calendars?
Do what makes your game works best. I don't have expectations of my VNs. I come to the experience and see what the artists creates. I can imagine any number of different types of VNs were a calendar might be useful--dating sim, sure...but also any game where you have a deadline, any game where you ...

Re: Teaser Trailer/OP Sequence Services [ FREE! ]
It's all good! I'm not going to rely on Kickstarter or any other crowdfunding service to fund my game, it's just gonna be out-of-pocket. It's gonna be brutal, but I want full creative control and to have no chance of disappointing funders, so a publisher and crowdfunding are kinda out of the questi...

What are your expectations on VNs with calendars?
Do you feel like calendars are only for specific kinds of games (like more interactive, dating-sim types)? What do you think about a more traditional VN with a top-right corner calendar of the month/day? I feel my VN could easily work with or without one, but I'm leaning towards a calendar because t...
