Re: custom protag yay or nay?
Customizable main protags is a neat feature but to me it's more of an extra that isn't exactly necessary for me to enjoy a game. I will say that I've enjoyed games that add a sort of 'wardrobe' at the beginning of the game, and you earn new outfits for your protag based on the choices you make or si...

Re: Handling the typical bland protagonist
I don't feel like I have a problem with writing protagonists or having them turn out dull, if only because I spend a LOT of time figuring out backstories before the main event even happens! I like daydreaming about what my characters have dealt with that makes or defines who they are now, but allows...

Re: Should we try to fundraise?
Thanks so much for all the responses and advice guys ^_^ I will definitely look into a game jam and try making a smaller one first. I have the tyranobuilder software (as I am at level 0 with coding and ren'py was scary :D) and have been messing around with it for a couple weeks now. It is a lot mor...

Re: Voice Acting in a Dialogue Heavy Game
I haven't read too many vns with voice-acting in it, but I've enjoyed smaller-timed games a lot more than the ones that take hours to complete. Some voices can just get tiring to hear after too long and it's not really something I look for in a game either. It's a nice addition, sure, but as folks h...

Re: Should we try to fundraise?
I would recommend that you try completing another, smaller visual novel that you can complete on a shoestring budget, rather than Kickstart/fundraise your first-ever visual novel. The first VN you make is usually your hardest because you're starting from the very beginning, from the ground up. Crow...

Re: Why are you making your current visual novel?
My new idea is really just a test I think. The two games I've released have been liked and are always compared to colorful storybooks and where one has been based on a humorous myth and the other based on animals and family, I'm considering trying a romance for a change with more choices and an over...

Re: SECOND CHANCE [GxB] - full free version is now out!
Finally finished the game, here's my review of it :D Was definitely a fan of Casimir on my first playthrough but after I obtained the good ending with Arantis, I had a new favorite! All of the characters were awesome though! It was really fun, I can't wait to see more games developed by you! http://...

Re: Another chance [gxb][romance][psychological][demo]
Just wanted to pop in to say kudos at making a more serious, psychological romance. We need more of those in the community :> Haven't played yet but I'm planning on checking out the demo this weekend and letting you know what I think! Also, the MC looks sadly adorable! As for your questions, heck ye...

Re: EvnTide is a News and Features site for Visual Novels!
Just wanted to post that the site is back in action again. Moved to another state and was getting settled for a few months, so didn't have too much time to get to do EvnTide things. Plus, I stressed myself out by trying to upload something constantly. Doing some small adjustments with the site for n...

Re: Small tip for VN devs
Great tip, especially with making it a text-based game first. I'm trying to do this for my next project. I always find myself distracted with making the art for a scene that my actual storytelling skills aren't up to par and makes for more mispellings, grammar mistakes, and general lack of cohesiven...

Re: SECOND CHANCE [GxB] - full free version is now out!
Based on all the positive comments I think I'll have to check this one out! Does Second Chance have a playtime duration to expect? For achieving 1 ending to trying to get them all?

Re: Jump scares in a game that isn't an horror game
Yeah, I agree, definitely warn people about jump scares. Even if it's not that bad, you don't know how it'll affect different players. I'd say a warning would be more than sufficient though, and maybe stating or claiming how much a player might expect from their play through.

Re: Quick Time Events in Visual Novels
I haven't yet played a visual novel with QTEs but I'm interested in how they'd go about it. I think I'm just used to reading visual novels at a slow pace, so seeing a QTE would probably be jarring for me at first. Not unwanted though- I'd love to play a more action-adventure-(horror?) VN that has to...

Re: How crowded is the visual novel market now?
I'll agree with most of what SundownKid has said. The entire market is saturated. I've worked on visual novels and helped to market roguelikes, adventure games, top-down shooters, etc. Unfortunately, the general consensus has been that there's another game that does much better, and newer games of a...
