Re: e·phem·er·al [Drama, Slice of Life]
We hit a couple snags, severely slowing down progress. But I have decided to use this down time to reevaluate some aspects of the game. I'll most likely be moving to Unity for coding. Possibly making it a bit more interactive. We're looking at a 2017 release. I'll finish it! I promise you that!

Did some reworking and deciding to make it totally gay and enter it in the upcoming Yuri Jam. I'll make a new thread once the jam starts. =D

Re: Ludum Dare anyone?
Poking in because I really like that theme. lol Could do something like Nausicaa Vally of the Wind or Castle in the Sky. Or OOPArt (out of place Artifacts in History). Maybe have your MC who is an archaeologist who finds a OOPArt and gets thrust into magical/secret society shenanigans. Do an Indiana...

Re: Character customization in CGs...
It's tedious. All we are doing is swapping Character Gender and we're getting to a point were we might just ditch the idea all together. Plus adding all those extra images are going to make your game heavier. Images do take up a bit of memory space. Unless you had all the CGs only have your other ch...

Re: Contracts
I mostly use two types of contracts. Payment and Work Agreement. This is just a written agreement of what the work you are asking is and how much will be paid. A lot of freelancers will have their own versions but it's good to have a version of your own. Transfer of Rights. So far I've only use this...

Re: Your experience with teams?
I've been dabbling in video game dev for about 8 years now, seriously for about 2. Including both people I have worked with RL and Online I've been through maybe 2 dozen people. Biggest deterrent I've found is that people don't realize how much work it is. Yeah, making video games sounds like a lot ...

Re: How to create a consistent and tasteful tone and atmosph
Re-writes, lots and lots of re-writes. That's really the only way to make your script tone feel consistent. I'm working on one right now that's very inspired by Wizard of OZ and classic sci-fi. I'm on my forth re-write to make sure it keeps the tone how I want it. Tone down some parts that got to da...

Re: Do you think visual novels are growing or slowly dying?
I feel vns are definitely growing, but it does seem traffic for many visual novel development sites is curiously dwindling. I don't know that that's the actual case though. I can see that. My guess would be since there are more devs now, there is more competition. Video games are a luxury item and ...

Re: Android/iOS dimensions
Depends on what phone you are using. Iphones don't have the same dimensions as androids. Then you have iphones vs ipads. What your client is asking is kinda impossible. You could either make a BG that only have clickable items within your smallest res box. Or have separate image pack for every resol...

Re: Licensing and 'Pay what you want'
It depends how the donations work. There loopholes that you can use to get around them. Not always recommended as it's kinda a dick move. You can not accept donations for that specific game, but you can accept donations for yourself. Say I have a patreon to support my game and comic making, one of t...

Re: Seeking Writers for Romance Visual Novels in Fantasy Gen
So basically, you want writers to come up with completely original romance ideas for a game they get no royalties off of. Why shouldn't they just make they're own stuff and sell it them selves? And you mentioned 17+. Are these porn games? If so, there is a pretty big issue with mobile porting. And m...

Re: Torn on Protag gender
As a queer person, I would recommend you not making a BL game solely for the purpose "it might sell better". It's a little... off putting. Assuming that your main audience is going to be queer, sans that small group annoying yaoi fangirls, you may end up your game being lacking in that reg...

Re: Audio file trouble: ogg really quiet
If you plan to go commercial to want to avoid MP3. It has a very steep license on it. I use Audacity and haven't had any issues with converting. Though you may want to ask your composer (if you have one) to give you your files in mp4 or ogg right from the get go. I'm not sure why it's changing the q...
