Re: pre-orders of games?
I don't buy Early Access games on Steam either, for much the same reasons. Same, I've also been burned paying almost full price for an unfinished game that never got updated. Even with Triple A games, quality is just so all over the map. You would be almost better off doing a kickstarter and offeri...

Re: pre-orders of games?
If it was from a group that has release a couple games, then yes, I would be okay pre-ordering. If it's the groups first game then no. I just see so many games and groups go under, even if they do have a strong demo. Makes one a little gun-shy. lol

Re: Hiring Artists Questions?
So, do you guys know what to look when deciding whether a new/ unknown artist is good enough to hire then? Do you mean quality of the art its self? That's what portfolios or art blogs are for. If you see an artist you like but they only draw their characters in a standing poses, they may not be the...

Re: Using Patreon/Ko-Fi
Patreon is really set up for creators who are constantly making something of some sort, be it art or otherwise. Considering game dev has so much down time from a consumers point of view there really isn't much incentive for them to donate. If you plan to make short episodic VNs that say... you relea...

Re: Hiring Artists Questions?
1. Most Artists have some form of social media, be it tumblr or a blog of some sort. That should give you an idea of what the person is like and if you think you should work with them. Honestly, the best way to avoid the "Vanishing Artist Curse" is to pay them. Like a decent pay, none of t...

Re: Physical Copies of Your Games?
I PERSONALLY always love DVD packaging, I love having manuals and a disc and cover art with a synopsis etc. https://www.amazon.com/100PCS-SWIVEL-SQUARE-POLY-SLEEVE/dp/B01C6DLS0Y/ref=as_li_ss_tl?s=audio-video-accessories&ie=UTF8&qid=1490627519&sr=1-13&keywords=dvd+case+usb&linkCo...

Re: Physical Copies of Your Games?
So this was really bugging me so I went on an extensive research and feedback gathering mission. USB are absolutely the way to go. Everyone I talked to under the age of 45 would take a USB over CDs every time. New plan for our con is to get printed USBs with the logo of the game on it. As well as th...

Re: Physical Copies of Your Games?
We are going the DVD route as well when we hit cons. Just planning to burn our own copies and add some art to the cases. I looked into USB devices but I dunno, USBs just seem kinda shoddy and unprofessional to me. I guess I'll try to get some feedback from people about it now. =/

Re: The villainous ojou-sama rival character in otome games
While protagonist characters can add interesting plot elements to your game, I would avoid making characters that are token character arc types. It's been done a hundred times before and is a turn off for a lot of people. Make sure your character has a solid reason to exist in you story and is their...

Re: Making Visual Novels (For People Who Hate Visual Novels)
Oh, I guess I forgot to mention that the bold sentences where actually the comments from my fellow greenlight watch-group members and greenlight regulars who got very annoyed with VN no.X appearing on greenlight. I know they are very extreme examples, but I saw many similar comments like those on d...

Re: Ladies, about the lack of "hentai" scenes with fem prtgn
They are out there, you just got a hang around different scenes. I think the mainstream stereotype of hentai games just overshadows other genres because that's what people think of. Unless you are talking about games from Japan. Then it's a whole other culture and censorship discussion I am not qual...

Re: Fanmade Visual Novel Suggestions?
You're probably just best off making what you like. If you make a game off of something you don't know very well fans will notice. Add that on top of how long games take to make and how fast trends change. Maybe play around with popular themes over fangames. Things like fairy tales and whatnot. Avoi...

Re: Pitching your VN
I would check out other KNs in your genre and see what they do. Don't blatantly copy anyone, but see what trends are popular is a good pitch. No need to reinvent the wheel. I browsed around the WIP threads before putting mine together just to get a feel of what the community expects. That said, I'm ...
