Cyberpunk! It is the greatest genre for shmups*, so of course it would be great for VNs, too! "Hey so today I saw this girl I like.... AGHHH, someone is hacking my braiiiinnnnnn....!"
*Arcade shooting games like Gradius or Raiden or whatever.

Re: Is completing games hard?
My problem is that once I get game concepts A, B, and C working properly, I'm like, "I CAN DO ANYTHING!!!", and go wild on concepts D, E, F, G, H... and eventually forget about the game's story. Every project ends up being a testing ground for new concepts instead of something where my goa...

Re: What women want from female characters
I don't really expect to see a lot of female characters in historical or modern war settings. It just doesn't happen all that often. It's not that it doesn't happen that often, it's because history is written by men  There are probably several instances of female warriors in the past who simp...

Just google 'sniper assassin', and maybe 'flash game', you should find it pretty easily.

Re: Teacher Student relationships
Well, it's not so much the AGE thing as much as, "If I date this person *currently*, would it really be a good idea?" I get being in love with someone. I do. All I'm saying is that it may be better to wait a bit, when there'd be less issues, than doing it right at that moment. :/ But hey,...

Re: Turning a basic plot into a VN.
The only time I can ever finish a game is when I have the entire story in my head beforehand, beginning, middle, and end. This doesn't mean like, plotting it out on paper, but have an understanding of where things begin, where they end, and then a few scenes for the middle. If you do want to plot th...

Re: First person shooter
This is far from an FPS, but the visual novel "Last Bullet" included several point & click shooting scenes. If you've ever seen the flash game "Sniper Assassin", it was basically the same thing as that, only with a relevant story. I don't think something like that would be to...

Re: BORING~ freaking many dialogue and less gameplay
I never make visual novels, as I'm not even a huge fan of visual novels in the first place. Even so, I'd never say I'm 'bringing Ren'Py to the next level', because the 'next level' (if you want to call it that) is basically just implementing Python code in more clever ways. Ren'py itself is just an ...

Re: Teacher Student relationships
So, yeah. If you think about, dating your teacher probably just isn't a good a idea. Actually, that could go for anyone who has a position of power over you. But would it really be *that* hard to just date them *after* you graduate? Or even more reasonably, after you finish their class. I've never ...

Re: Whatever you do - GET THAT DAMN GUI RIGHT! *_*
In either case, the distinction I was making between 'simple' and 'plain' was that if your game only has one button (the 'forward the text' button), make sure that button is as clean ('simple') as possible. If it's too plain, it might look obnoxious. IMO, Phoenix Wright DS's big brown button with wh...

Re: Whatever you do - GET THAT DAMN GUI RIGHT! *_*
However, if you are talking about pretty "skinning"/aesthetics (ex: pretty edges around the screen; flowers or bats on the corners), then that is something I don't really notice or care about. I care about the bats :( But, anyway, I'm not sure what you are talking about when you say "...

Re: Whatever you do - GET THAT DAMN GUI RIGHT! *_*
Typically I agree that a game that is aesthetically pleasing is going to be more fun than one that isn't. However, just to play devil's advocate, I must mention the majority of Imageepoch's games*, which in my not-so-humble opinion are absolute garbage despite looking very nice. They even stole the ...

Re: Language of a game
I think no matter what, the creator should write the game in their native language, or whatever language allows them the most creativity (unless of course, the game itself is a study in second languages). Later they can translate it into English or work with someone who can help them get the meaning...

Re: grayed out in-game menu
I'm looking to do the same thing (have a menu with several options, with certain options un-clickable depending on different conditions), but do I have to create my own custom menu every time I want to do this? I know how to hide certain options: menu: "Walk Away": ... "Go Crazy"...

Re: Nervous about making first game....
i think whats important is coding skill To be fair, anyone can create a fulfilling VN with Ren'Py with very little coding knowledge. In fact, I've been able to make very sophisticated sims (in my opinion, lol), and I had absolutely zero scripting experience prior to Ren'Py. Regarding coding (or scr...
