Re: Exaggerating Characters for Readability

Vicious circle. In a larger project there's a producer who tells what they want to the writer, usually in broad enough strokes that you're left with a trope instead of a well-rounded character. Especially if some of the intricacies cannot be added fluently by the writer or are forgotten about. Then ...

Re: Having multiple writers: How to be consistent?

Hello! Thank you for your input, but contrary to what you are saying, I do have quite a lot of experience already with creating big projects on multiple different platforms and handling large teams with big budgets. I have never worked with more than one writer for a project and was just asking for...

Re: Having multiple writers: How to be consistent?

The best way would be to not do what you're saying. Half a million words of script is a rediculously vast amount, probably way past what you and the main writer can handle unless you've got prior experience. And unless you've got prior experience making and releasing a game yourself, you're not goin...

Re: Diversity in Visual Novels

That's a really interesting point about visual representation in relation to diversity, I'd be curious to see if anyone else shares that viewpoint. I do know what you're talking about with the 'internal whitewashing' issue. On the other hand, though, there are plenty of VNs that actually do the opp...

Re: Question about CG's

When to use CGs? As little as possible. Try to avoid CGs whenever and wherever you can, because this is still your first project. Do not underestimate how much work they can be. People easily forget counting out how much CG-requiring moments they're actually putting in a script, and end up with 30 o...

Re: Diversity in Visual Novels

On the survey; ironically trying to account for everyone results in me feeling prissy and left out. In genders, there's no simple option for male and female, meaning that if you're a heterosexual you'd have to select that you're cis male (and probably have to google what it even means), thus not all...

Re: Any Advice Hiring an Artist?

If it contains all the features and techniques that you plan to implement, then it could suffice in a pinch. But only if it is already at the finalised product's quality, if it's just rough art that you plan to polish f.e. then you haven't done the polishing yet and therefore not experienced doing t...

Re: Any Advice Hiring an Artist?

What trooper6 said, start small and get the ropes down before tackling the big beast you want to make. Make sure that the artist has done (and finished!) other projects before, or find some other reliable reason to believe that they won't drop out halfway the project without refunding what you've al...

Me: Veronica wouldn't be too much of a problem, she only has a few dresses. Me: But wouldn't she get more expensive dresses from William during her route? Me: Damn it. https://i.postimg.cc/pLT2JM7T/Princess-Veronica-sunday.png Her first day is done and we're getting halfway her second. Progress, jay!

Re: The Thorn Prince[regency][BxG]

I finally finished reading the entire thread (yes, even the replies and all)! Everything is brilliant. I'm honestly surprised that you would aim for 400,000+ words. I feel like I'm already too afraid of how to even reach 100k (is that even possible...) but it is without a doubt impressive given the...

Re: Writing process: focus on story first vs. world-building first?

I'm not too sure my skill level in art will permit me to make such an extravagant map like the one you've done, but I'll definitely try that out. Takes a lot of effort but the effect is quite significant. Now I should include naming countries and provinces into my plan... That's got to be a lot. I ...

Re: Writing process: focus on story first vs. world-building first?

I do suppose humanizing bad guys make them somewhat relatable. If anything, perhaps getting a reader to sympathize with a villain means that I might be doing a good job. Not sure. But I'll definitely put that on my plate when writing! In most of the games I play, I do like it when a villain isn't j...

Re: Writing process: focus on story first vs. world-building first?

So far, I do have a plot, and I do have the concept of the setting, so I've been fixing up the world based on what the plot needs. I'm trying to not be too reliant on the plot itself though, because I don't want the world I make to seem too convenient for the story that takes place. I think it's ju...

Re: Writing process: focus on story first vs. world-building first?

The best way would be both at once. The story needs some kind of world to take place in, and the world would need some kind of story to happen once it's set in motion. In the best case, the two will dictate one another. You've got an avatar and a fire nation, and a general plot about how the avatar ...
