Re: Showing a screen within a screen?

You can use the "use screen_name" screen language.
Depending on how you set up your screens, that is.

It generally goes at the bottom of your screen code, but it depends where you need it to show up.

Re: Option to disable side sprites?

Sorry, after checking the screen, the variable I was thinking of cannot be used how I imagined.

I don't have the time right now, but I'll take a look later at this more thoroughly.

Oops, missed the fact you are using self voicing.

Re: Ren’py Skips over the Main Menu in every single game (including The Question and the Tutorial)

A red line sounds like code folding, it's not going to affect anything.

The /common folder is found in the renpy install directory.

Maybe just try a fresh install of renpy.

You haven't edited the files found in /common, have you?

All I can think of is you modified the _start behaviour

Re: Is there a way to delay self-voicing playback?

You use the text tag "w" - which is for wait. (You might want to supply it a time so it continues instead of waiting for a click, {w=1.0}, for example) If you're running a recent version of Ren'Py, you need to disable a config default first. config.nw_voice = False This is legacy behaviour though, s...

Re: The user's development process documentation?

Example scripts and code are included with Ren'Py in the form of the tutorial and the demo / sample game "The Question", both of which anyone can look at the scripts for and analyse them. The Tutorial explains the given codes in depth and how they should be used. Ren'Py itself is highly accessible t...

Re: The user's development process documentation?

Regarding a user documentation, renpy itself includes a tutorial which sets out certain things in an approximate order for which someone can learn in. There is also the quick start guide. Ultimately, however, it is too dependant on what a user might be wanting to implement in their VN, so a set path...

For 3d characters, I can only think of editing MMD models through PMX/PMD. It's mostly assembling parts though.
Be careful with MMD assets, much of the available models and parts, are in fact stolen assets.

Re: Option to disable side sprites?

Such a variable already exists, its found in the say screen.

A button with the action ToggleScreenVariable("var"), or ToggleVariable("var"), where var is the name of the variable that controls the side image, should do the trick.

Re: System and mobile in renpy

The launcher won't work on Android and would require significant work to make it do so. .rpy files are plain text files that can be edited in any text editor. Notepad will recognise them as.txt files. You can use an Android app text editor to write your code if desired (I do), but be cautious about ...

Re: I will now carefully tug at the wizard's sleeve, hoping for some attention.

Most Python (2..7) functions work or can be imported, so that gives way for anything you can think of and make with Python. For Ren'Py specific functions, the general index is comprehensive of all available functions and pythonic code used by / in Ren'Py https://www.renpy.org/doc/html/index.html#ind...

Re: I will now carefully tug at the wizard's sleeve, hoping for some attention.

Yes, Ren'Py is almost entirely scripted. PyTom did create the interactive director which can help you create your game a bit more wysiwyg style, but it isn't quite the same as a drag and drop system. One user here has created Xen'Py, a visual editor for Ren'Py. I have no experience with either. I my...

Re: how to set a main menu image

I think the real issue is the file extension.
You say your file is main_menu.jpg, but renpy is looking for main_menu.png

Sure! You just need to use an idle_foreground and hover_foreground Here is an example imagebutton. imagebutton: auto 'gui/button/button_base_%s.png' hover_foreground Text("yourText", xalign=0.5, yalign=0.5) idle_foreground Text("yourText", xalign=0.5, yalign=0.5) action yourAction I use it in a proj...
