Re: adventure game mechanics in VNs

I'm unsure what you mean by adventure game?
Do you mean like an RPG with VN intermissions, or a game with a map where you choose where to go, changing the story with your choices, or perhaps something else?

Re: Ren'Py 7.1.0 Prereleased

I expected as much regarding the x86 version, thanks for the explanation though.

I will look at the images folder and image definitions later, as far as I am aware, it is not preceded with a period, so may be in the code as supplied.
I know everything works smoothly with my own projects.

Re: PLEASE HELP! PROJECT DELETED ITSELF

Where did you place your projects directory? It is possible that Ren'Py was updated or modified and has simply lost the link to the projects directory.

Re: Unable to start the Gradle daemon process in 7.1.0

The error message seems to indicate you are low on either Ram or storage?

I've had no troubles using the latest update myself.

Re: Showing a screen with a transform from a specific location

For what its worth, if you are planning to re-do things from scratch, this old snippet manages sliding panels quite nicely... Zorder or layering is based on where each is added to config.overlay_screens Changes makes it retract the 'old' screen, switch screens then slide in the new one. I used a si...

Re: Ren'Py 7.1.0 Prereleased

Nice job! Just to be clear; you're saying you consider this prerelease stable enough for rush updates to Google Play? So people should still wait for the full release if there is no immediate need to update? Really interested in the new features that allow smaller buiilds! This is great news. Even i...

Re: updater for android

You can't use the updater to update your game, its against the security policy of most Android market places. All you need to do, in your case, is have a dedicated screen that checks if an update is available, that much is allowed. After that, a user will still have to update their app in the regula...

Re: Say screen what transition?

You can fake it. Show the textbox and text as an image and dissolve in when necessary.
Remember to hide the real say window first.

Re: Highlighted text disappears when I click on it

I believe this is a copy and paste 'feature' - highlight a section of text, click on it, it gets replaced by your clipboard.

Re: Drawing in Ren'Py

This was asked once before and the conclusion at that time was that it was not possible in any feasible way. A recent thread prompted me to conside building a grid, made up of 1*1 solids. Upon mouseover (perhaps, only when holding down a key), any hovered grid section would swap colors. It might wor...

Re: Syncronicity shake fx issue

I think you can use either a condition switch, or use "show as", which should simply replace an already shown image, with another. I haven't used condition switches, so I'd go with the show x as x method. # for example show reilly at my_shake "This car ride is so bumpy! I'm getting angry." show reil...

Re: An Exeption Has Occured - An Unknown Inventory Problem

Using $ inventory = [] is bad practise and should never be done. This only creates the inventory after a player presses "start". Now imagine they save and exit. Tomorrow, they return and press 'load'. Lo and behold, they never go past start label, "inventory" is never defined and when next interacte...

Re: ERROR; Expected Statment

Yes, I can see what you're trying to achieve, and a return will do exactly the same thing. There's no harm in using it, but that full restart function is meant for other uses, like fully restarting Ren'py, without needing to close and relaunch the game, resetting any game state and returning a playe...

Re: how to change position of buttons in main menu?

The easy approach to that problem, is to copy the relevant textbuttons and styles from the navigation screen, place them in a center aligned vbox (or hbox) and remove 'use navigation' from the main menu screen

Re: Call If player right-clicked

You can use a button with "alternate" action that calls a label, containing your statement.
Put it in a screen and call the screen when needed.

The button code would look like

Code: Select all

textbutton _("Press me") alternate Call mystatement
