Re: Script writing

I have experimented with various kinds of software, but, at least for me, a virtual work space has always felt less 'embodied' and been more difficult to work with than the 'manual' method of having actual, physical folders for filing your worldbuilding, notes on narrative structure, the logistics o...

Re: Unsound Minds: The Clarevine Epoch [18+][Gore][GxG][Dark][Lovecraftian][Christianity]

This is actually a really cool concept! I especially like the idea of using the contrast between two fundamentally different mythologies as a basis for the central conflict - especially if you do it both aesthetically and thematically.

Re: Have suggestions for male fashion resources/references?

I look to artists I like a lot, rather than going through the trouble of stylizing clothing myself. Basically, ask yourself: 'What type of clothing would this character wear, and which other works of fiction have characters with that style/lack of style.', look through the official art and do studie...

Re: Ren'Py Interactive Director 2.0 Released

This really does make implementation far less timeconsuming. Write your dialogue and narration first, then do a second pass where you add in backgrounds sprites and sfx and you're good. Would it be possible to add sound channel support to this assistent as well? Being able to insert music in real ti...

Re: Sprites... outside the box!!!

The "easy" way to do this would be to have a smaller window that is basically just a painting that's always layered on top of backgrounds in the game window. Maybe you could give the inner window a stage aesthetic and have the outside area as a place for a fictional audience, with free spa...

Re: Making Visual Novels (For People Who Hate Visual Novels)

Yeah, I probably should've mentioned in the original post that I'm coming from the perspective of someone already using a Western aesthetic, who is looking for other simple ways to extend an olive branch to the Western indie comics/videogame crowd. I know that Jason Shiga is someone who has been pr...

Those are some very nice animations! It's also really refreshing to see someone doing traditional artwork.

Re: Making Visual Novels (For People Who Hate Visual Novels)

From talking to some of my normie friends I'd say that for a more general audience the thing that's the most off-putting is how heavily influenced titles developed by western teams are by the japanese market. We have some great traditions in terms of visuals and storytelling. For instance, french co...

Re: Any suggestions on how to strength this external conflic

The central theme that ties everything together, I think, is that there is no perfect system without inherent flaws--but it all really depends on how you look at an imperfect system that determines whether it is corrupt or "for-the-greater-good". Discovering this government secret is pret...

Re: Any suggestions on how to strength this external conflic

Here's a thesis: All meaningful conflict is a conflict of emotions and/or ideals. Whether you want to externalize it or have it remain internal depends on the medium and your own preferences. The screenplay is a visual medium, so you want to externalize conflict to make it visible. With visual novel...

You have my deepest respect for putting your music out there for anyone to use, and actually coming over here to update people on your progress. That ominous / dark folder in particular is absolutely amazing.

Re: "Finished" my menu background!

Pretty good. I'd make the sun a bit brighter, have some hue variations going from yellow-white over orange to red and add a bit of bloom, but don't be too perfectionistic. As far as art goes, there's a pretty clear skillcap to what you can do at any one time without every background, sprite and menu...

Re: How to avoid 'sameface syndrome'?

If you're serious about art I'd suggest drawing from life for a bit and learning to contruct realistic faces and then going back to stylized drawings. Stylized art looks deceptively simple, but there's a good amount of knowledge of what proportions work and how the features of the face relate to eac...
