Re: Magical Boutique II [MB1 spoilers!]
Ahem. SWEET!!!! (Since I forgot to comment the other day after I greedily grabbed it to use.) Seriously, people, if anyone is contemplating making a game and thinking, "I'd like to do a game more like Divi-Dead or Three Sisters than the standard CYOA-style Ren'Ai, but I'm kind of afraid of codi...

Re: What do you do when you're bored
Dude, Dragon Court . You can waste so much time there it's not even funny. Or buy a copy of the Sims 2. That'll suck up all your free time for ever and ever, especially if you take the time to download clothes, hair, and furniture. Ooo, idea. Write a game!!! Then you can help others to ward off bore...

Re: Photo BG Reference and a Little Story (...Rant)
Wow, neat! Great resource, and it's so interesting to see pictures of someplace I've never been. Thank you!
(Only problem is, to do that tracing background thing, I'm pretty sure you have to be able to draw straight lines. I'm still working on that. Oh, and sorry about your car!)

Re: My thoughts are all over the place!
Well... what I usually do (assuming no particular plot bunny has me) is take a look at my 'want to try' techniques file. Any time I read about a technique or structure, or like something in a video game, or whatever, I write it down for later. For example - string of pearls structure. Mini-game-base...

Re: Something up my sleeve
It's probably not as lame as you think it is on first glance. Write what you've got, and then tomorrow when you look at it you'll think, "Wow, why did I think that was lame?" :) Some ideas... they're friends, so they have in-jokes? Have one call the other by a funny name, or refer to the i...

Re: Review Blog
Looks sharp!!! You might want to assign each review a tag of the name of the game (assuming there will be multiple reviews per game, that is), even if you're not going to list all of 'em on the main page. Then you can link from the main page to a page listing all the reviews by game name for easy lo...

Re: Review Blog
It might help to copy it, paste it into notepad or another plain text editor, save it as txt, close it, reopen it, and then copy it from notepad into the blog software. MSWord does funky things to apostrophes sometimes, I've noticed, but I don't know why (I use OpenOffice now, myself).

Re: Review Blog
Here you go: https://www.blogger.com/start It's very easy to sign up for (they've gone Google since I last checked), and I'm pretty sure that there's a collaboration-type set-up, too, although I've never used that feature! The nice thing is that many, many people use it, so it's pretty stable. It al...

Re: Magical Boutique
It was a fun game, lots of story, and not too gruesome. Well, except for the parts that had me covering my eyes... which isn't the smartest thing to do when playing a game where scary monsters jump out of sewer pipes and try to eat you. But structurally it was nicely done. It was divided roughly int...

Re: Fastest "Complete" game you've ever written?
Just curious what happened with this one? Last time it was mentioned your original artist returned (and so the sprites became property of Tomorrow, among other examples of resource re-use that goes on in here.) It is a shame if we cannot all see it, it was a pleasant work. There were complications,...

Re: Magical Boutique
The second solution means it's a bit more annoying for the player since he actually clicks through places he doesn't need to be at. I think this approach *could* work, but it's a matter of how often clicking on extraneous locations would be necessary. In a game where you'd have only a few repetitio...

** What I want ** - A system that allows exploration freedom to a certain degree I've been playing with this idea a *lot*, and I have to say, it's totally doable in Ren'Py. Especially an IF-style room/location structure. The big problem I've run into is that, once the framework is done, I never see...

Re: Review Blog
I like this idea a lot! And the format looks pretty darn spiffy as is, especially on the short synopsis reviews. You might want to hide the bulk of the full reviews (the ones with spoilers) behind a "more" type link. Would make it easier to read the posts looking for a particular game, and...

Re: Fastest "Complete" game you've ever written?
If by "complete" you mean "released", it'd have to be Eidolon at just under a month (it's a NaNo, so it was planned to be that quick). "Complete" as in "everything I personally can do" would be Danse Macabre in three weeks. Now, the *slowest* is much easier! I...

Re: YuMMz Dating Simulator Programming questions
I use multiple files too, for what it's worth. I like keeping my functions, my main story, and my endings each in separate files, minimum. Just makes it easier to test, proofread, and troubleshoot. For a straight, no extra programming frills, linear with looping branches story, I prefer a single fil...
