Re: Ren'Py for iPhone. A lost cause?

Thanks for the clarification, it's much appreciated. :) When you put it that way, I can see how the way that Apple does things stands blatantly against the kind of openness which the Ren'Py community encourages.

Re: How can I make a "Show CG"/"Hide UI" button?

Wow, thank you for the help. It's amazing to me how powerful Ren'Py can be when one knows how to use it. This also answers about a dozen questions I had about how to set up a custom interface, since it lead me to reading up on the various "ui" functions. So, again, thanks! Looking over the various p...

Re: Ren'Py for iPhone. A lost cause?

Ah, sorry, I meant something like Cydia specifically, seeing as many developers with rejected apps simply release their works on there. Guessing you'd rather not be affiliated with something like that?

Re: How can I make a "Show CG"/"Hide UI" button?

Ah, thank you! I was searching for the way to do it, but couldn't seem to find a thread/FAQ entry where it was mentioned. (Edit: Figures it was under the Help button.) I'm using one of those weird Apple mice without any buttons (let alone a middle one), so it didn't occur to me that it might have be...

Re: Ren'Py for iPhone. A lost cause?

It could be done for the unoffical app stores, like Cydia. I have no plans to do so, however - the next target is probably Android or NaCl. Sorry for replying to this so long after it was said! Had to ask, is there any reason for this? Looking at that 'roadmap' thread on the Ren'Py Development boar...

How can I make a "Show CG"/"Hide UI" button?

Something I'm used to from playing games based on other visual novel engines is the ability for the user to temporarily hide all of the game's user interface and just show the artwork in the background. Usually this is either handled by right-clicking anywhere in the game window, or by clicking a bu...

Re: checking periods for events?

Hi tigerkidde, just wanted to thank you for your thoughtful reply too. :) This is very relevant to the game I'm working on, and while the code itself is simple enough, I work a lot better when I see an example logic that someone's already written.

Much appreciated!

Re: Draggable background pictures?

Hello again, and thanks for the advice. As it turns out, I got my original concept working by playing around with Ren'Py's layering features a little bit more: init: image eileen happy = "eileen_happy.png" $ e = Character('Eileen', color="#c8ffc8") label start: python hide: ui.layer("master") vp = u...

Re: Expected statement?!

Have you indented your lines? Python is very specific about how much white space you have to put before each statement. Generally, each line in a chain of logic should have an additional four spaces in front of it, like so: menu: "It's great, Maria!": jump love "It's... I don't know what to say?": j...

Draggable background pictures?

Greetings! I was wondering if I could get some help from the Ren'Py developer community. Sorry in advance for any newbness I may exude. :) I'm trying to do something I saw in a visual novel once (Doki Doki Majo Shinpan for the Nintendo DS I think, but don't quote me on it), where a user could pan ar...
