How can I calculate the current size of a Screen frame?

I have a screens code, like this: screen New_screen(): frame: background None align (0.5,0.5) xmaximum 300 text "This is a long string of text confined to a small frame and I want to know the exact height of the resulting frame, given font and text size." # I want to retrieve the height of that fram...

Re: [Tutorial] Using Ren'Py SpriteManager for Complex Systems (Beginner-Friendly)

Hi bonnie! Glad to hear your internet is back. :) And no worries. It will be a few more weeks before next tutorial is ready. I have some other work to finish up for some clients. So, possibly mid-to-late August. I'll post here again once the next video is ready, and I'll include the content that I m...

Re: [Tutorial] Using Ren'Py SpriteManager for Complex Systems (Beginner-Friendly)

Thanks for your comment Enchant00! I am happy the tutorials are helping. :) And sure, bonnie_641! Right now there's no actual environment (no background/map). So, I'll have to use X,Y coordinates like you mentioned. To make it simple, I'll use some placeholder sprites in the next tutorial to show th...

Re: Requirements for Recruitment threads (RULES)

Didn't know where to post this, so figured I'd post it here. Recently I ran into a new account posting in the "We are offering Paid Work" thread. After contacting the person, I realize they are breaking Rule #1: (1) Only recruit if you have an actual, clearly defined project you're recruiting for. D...

Re: Seeking co-writer/partner (story, dialogue, ideas) for Visual Novel (Denpa/Horror/Mystery)

It takes a lot of time to conceptualize a coherent plot using outlines or rough drafting. Bouncing ideas can take days, even if structured properly through weekly meetings. Pay by word doesn't really seem suitable to those tasks. Are you willing to work on a basis of monthly, biweekly, or weekly pay?

Re: (KS Live) Who Wants To Destroy An Alien? [Sci-fi | Dystopian | Cyberpunk | RPG/Sim]

We just launched the Kickstarter campaign for Who Wants To Destroy An Alien! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1592785075/who-wants-to-destroy-an-alien While this may not be a Visual Novel, we are using Ren'Py to create our game. A successful campaign will allow us to finally focus full-time on t...

Re: (Demo on Steam) Who Wants To Destroy An Alien? [Sci-fi | Dystopian | Cyberpunk | RPG/Sim]

If you've been following this exotic title created with Ren'Py, you might be surprised that Who Wants To Destroy An Alien began as a totally different concept. It was originally something closer to a dungeon-crawler such as Tales of Maj'Eyal or Dungeons of Dredmor! We've just published an interestin...

Questions with Ren'Py Beta Web Support

I'm using Ren'Py 7.3.0.271 which includes the new Beta for Web Support. Does the web application work for upload to Kongregate's website? Has anyone tested this first-hand? Also, do Visual Novels with Python/Pygame mini-games work? A lot of my game is programmed with Python. While I realize my games...

Re: (Demo on Steam) Who Wants To Destroy An Alien? [Sci-fi | Dystopian | Cyberpunk | RPG/Sim]

Thank you! I realize it may be a bit out of place since most Ren'Py games are Visual Novels, lol. However, Ren'Py is such an awesome engine, and Python is so great for Artificial Intelligence that I'd like to focus on more dynamic games like this. I hope people enjoy it. :)

Re: (Demo on Steam) Who Wants To Destroy An Alien? [Sci-fi | Dystopian | Cyberpunk | RPG/Sim]

There's no fixed storyline per se. There are events and quests with dialogue, though. It's an RPG/Sim game in the Sci-Fi / Dystopia / Cyberpunk genres. Something similar to Space Pirates and Zombies 2. The A.I. for each of the characters will trace different paths on the map to the final arena on ea...

Re: [Paid Coding Help] Build or Recycle a text adventure RPG Template or Skeleton

Hello, BallsDeepWeep. I make advanced games using Ren'Py. Python is a coding language like any other, and EVE Online utilizes Stackless Python, to give an example of how powerful it can be in the right hands. You may check my signature for past and current productions. I could do everything you have...

[Found] Need demo tester for Mac OS

Update: Found a tester. ^^ I need someone who has a Mac, to help test a demo I'm about to release on Steam. Just want to make sure the game runs properly. You don't have to test all the gameplay if you don't want to. If anyone can help, feel free to DM me for a Steam key. The game in question is li...
