Re: "Refusing to open (file) while predicting" Error

I found the problem. Sorry, rayminator. I didn't provide the next line of my code because I only posted up to the line reported by Ren'Py. The problem was on the following line. The xysize of the screen. I have three screens. Order1, Order2, Order3. They are coded the same, except slight differences...

Re: "Refusing to open (file) while predicting" Error

I posted the error in the title of the post. "Refusing to open (file) while predicting." The code is not from my game. It's from Ren'Py's loader.py. def load(name, tl=True): if renpy.display.predict.predicting: # @UndefinedVariable if threading.current_thread().name == "MainThread": if not (renpy.em...

(Solved) "Refusing to open (file) while predicting" Error

I booted an old client's game. It should be fully functional. However, I am getting an error that it's refusing to predict an image file which is clearly present in the game's files. I did a Ren'Py update to latest version. Game was developed on a previous version of Ren'Py. Still, I have other game...

Re: Run code every line?

Ok, so, for anyone else who needs to solve this issue, character_callback did the trick. Here is example code: init python: def AResetFunction(event, interact=True, **kwargs): if event == "end": # We want to reset a variable when the dialogue has finished. store.variable_to_reset = None # We reset t...

Re: Run code every line?

There are a number of menus actually. It just cuts off the voiced line mid sentence (more noticeable for longer voiced lines). Since it's not any code I wrote stopping the voiced lines, there's no way I could think to deactivate that functionality. But, I did some tests and this doesn't occur with t...

Re: Run code every line?

The issue I faced is that Ren'Py native functionality causes Voice channel to stop playing voice when a menu is opened. I ended up moving the voice playback to a sound channel and it solves the problem, but now store.last_voice_played doesn't work nor does the function VoiceReplay, so I had to code ...

[Solved] Run code every line?

Is there a straightforward and simple way to run a custom Python function after every line of dialogue (every time user clicks to dismiss dialogue)?

[Developer Tool] Dynamic Value Adjuster

Tired of randomly guesstimating offsets for your screen elements that do not perfectly align? Tired of doing hours of trial-and-error, attempting different values for your script, only to have to wait for reload/recompile between every attempt? If you answered 'yes' to any of the above, this is the ...

How can I calculate the current size of a Screen frame?

I have a screens code, like this: screen New_screen(): frame: background None align (0.5,0.5) xmaximum 300 text "This is a long string of text confined to a small frame and I want to know the exact height of the resulting frame, given font and text size." # I want to retrieve the height of that fram...

Re: [Tutorial] Using Ren'Py SpriteManager for Complex Systems (Beginner-Friendly)

Hi bonnie! Glad to hear your internet is back. :) And no worries. It will be a few more weeks before next tutorial is ready. I have some other work to finish up for some clients. So, possibly mid-to-late August. I'll post here again once the next video is ready, and I'll include the content that I m...

Re: [Tutorial] Using Ren'Py SpriteManager for Complex Systems (Beginner-Friendly)

Thanks for your comment Enchant00! I am happy the tutorials are helping. :) And sure, bonnie_641! Right now there's no actual environment (no background/map). So, I'll have to use X,Y coordinates like you mentioned. To make it simple, I'll use some placeholder sprites in the next tutorial to show th...

Re: Requirements for Recruitment threads (RULES)

Didn't know where to post this, so figured I'd post it here. Recently I ran into a new account posting in the "We are offering Paid Work" thread. After contacting the person, I realize they are breaking Rule #1: (1) Only recruit if you have an actual, clearly defined project you're recruiting for. D...

Re: Seeking co-writer/partner (story, dialogue, ideas) for Visual Novel (Denpa/Horror/Mystery)

It takes a lot of time to conceptualize a coherent plot using outlines or rough drafting. Bouncing ideas can take days, even if structured properly through weekly meetings. Pay by word doesn't really seem suitable to those tasks. Are you willing to work on a basis of monthly, biweekly, or weekly pay?

Re: [Tutorial] Using Ren'Py SpriteManager for Complex Animations (Beginner-Friendly)

Here is part #2 of the Ren'Py SpriteManager tutorial series. This tutorial covers how to move the sprite with the arrow keys using Ren'Py SpriteManager along with PyGame. Ei-1AVkzUhI Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ei-1AVkzUhI SpriteManager is what I use to create complex games such as Who Wan...
