Re: Is ok to isolate traits to specific characters?

Very very interesting posts. In my experience, you'll have more success going deeper - focus less on the adjectives that come to mind as a result of a character's actions, and focus more on what drives those actions in the first place. I like this part. I want to think there's more in them that what...

Re: Is ok to isolate traits to specific characters?

Interesting. I'm currently creating characters with subtle quirks that distinguish them. Not to mention that a couple are twins. I like to play with ambiguities but I'm aware that they can lead to confusion and disinterest.

Re: Is ok to isolate traits to specific characters?

If the character is fun to read, then they are probably a good character. Maybe just write what you like. And other people will probably also like it. :) Characters tied to a catchphrase or too one-sided aren't fun for me. Nevertheless, they entertain some audience. I think some people shares my li...

Re: How do you write "complex" characters?

Contradictions make audience stay thoughtful about your character. But as you can guess, overusing that method cheapens it. How many little girls and tiny villains with threatening words have you seen in fiction? I prefer using the exception. Exceptions are more customizable. For example, have a cha...

Re: Are dating sims just an excuse for porn?

When playing dating sims I hope for warm and kind experiences where I meet various characters, know about their unique traits, have some surprises and solve mysteries and stuff. Play as the role of the MC makes me feel important, like a character that is always in scene (like in real life) so that b...

Re: Friendship story writing

Friendship is a good topic. To imply just friendship, many stories features the full main group being all girls or all boys. But you could use other means like the title of your novel to tell it's about friends. Friends may be linked with feelings as strongs as your heartwarming usual lovers'. And y...

Re: Writing an organized script

I would rather start the organization right from the start. But if I was to organize some old project notes, I would search for keywords among my files. Check the date, filesize and get your categories ready (grouping apart dialogues from narrations and these two from notes or reminders for you, the...

Re: How do you stay motivated to finish?

I can't finish because I want to make something so special too, of course. If it is something so personal, you wouldn't want it to be done before its time comes. I started to lose sight of the end, wanting it to grow bigger and greater. But for my ending purposes, that's to stop doubting about my wo...

Re: How to convert integer to float value

How about using xalign and yalign?
I'm not sure when you may use one number notation or the other.
Another idea I have is looking for the variable that stores the size of screen. Maybe config.screen_width and config.screen_height?

One-Shot Characters

When building my worlds I think many roles that characters may occupy and portray. Sometimes I'm short in meaty characters and feel tempted to born a new one with the only purpose of filling the gap. When is advisable to create a new character? (especially in late development) Should it be made from...

Re: Is changing frequently the mood of a scene a bad practice?

I'd need to see more examples to potentially think otherwise, but that sounds like, best-case scenario, it'd be perceived as comical mood whiplash . If it's handled oddly or poorly, it'll probably just be confusing. Hitting the mark! Mood whiplash is what I'm talking about. You have some characters...

Is changing frequently the mood of a scene a bad practice?

Having some relaxing tea party, then a tornado arrives and while everyone is panicking, the playful girl of the crew is having fun. That makes everyone relax while still spinning in the air. One of the party members feels nostalgic and start crying, having some flashbacks about his/her childhood an...

Re: Training readers' anticipation

Thanks everyone for your entry. I do myself enjoy the most thinking about where plots could lead to. Many outcomes exists just by being hinted but they actually never happen and I find that awesome. Remember: The reader wants to know what happens next, but that doesn't always mean that it's better t...

Re: Change the name of the game or not?

You could name it after some meaningful place or character that is new in the alternate visual novel. Buy I agree that Your Affection is a great name for it.
