The iSlate, or iPad...Er...the Apple Tablet thingy...
So, anyone here interested at the prospect of the impending release of the new Apple Tablet? Apple - or perhaps I should say, Steve Jobs - has a knack for making people want to buy things that, at face value, they don't really need...or even thought they would ever want. So I'm kinda interested to s...

Re: Advertising in your visual novels
Another example is with Fate stay night and Tsukihime, how many fans of one haven't heard of the other? As soon as I finish FSN I'm going to want to find a similar VN, but it won't be easy because there are no more Type-moon ones for me to read. Slightly OT, but if you're really interested in more ...

How much time do you spend with your characters?
I'm wondering - just how well do you know the characters that you put in your stories? The balance between plot and characters always seems to be precarious, at best. One's plot - as originally conceived - typically needs certain events to unfold in very specific ways. But if the characters one deve...

Re: 6.11 Development
While an iPhone version would be nice, it's not a priority right now. For one thing, I'm not sure if Apple would accept a Python application. (I suspect they would not, unless I link everything statically and so on.) There are also licensing issues with SDL that we'd have to work out. Yeah, I was c...

Re: 6.11 Development
Hm... I'm certainly keeping OGL ES in mind, but I'm not sure it will be able to do everything I need it to. So we'll see. The big problem is imagedissolve. I'm not sure I'll be able to pull off a proper imagedissolve on, for example, the iphone hardware. We'll see. Update: I just looked up how many...

Re: 6.11 Development
Starting a thread for work on the 6.11 series. Here's the current roadmap: 6.11 will: - Add support for optional OpenGL acceleration. Forgive my ignorance in regards to graphics APIs, but... That OpenGL support you have planned - that wouldn't happen to encompass the OpenGL ES subset, would it?

Re: How much convenience can you stand?
I've seen a bit too many of these 'coincidences' that save the character, and I usually find myself wanting to beret the author and tell them their real name: deus ex machina... Ah. See, that's probably where my increasing disdain stems from. The good old deus ex - particularly in relation to the d...

Re: Copyrights Trademarks and the like
If you're that concerned, I suppose you could put together a series of documents and then have them notarized by a Notary Public. Probably include your script, character sheets, etc. But again - it doesn't stop anyone from stealing your material. It just legally proves when you came up with these sp...

Re: Copyrights Trademarks and the like
Well, I'm no law-talking guy. But whenever you make something, like a drawing, or a story, the copyright is automatically yours. It is your responsibility to protect it, however. If you're worried about people stealing specific images, you'll need to put copyright notices, along with the date on the...

Re: OELVN - the rationale behind the name
Is there any reason for the Katawa Shoujo folks to plaster "OELVN" or "EVN" on their site? ... I don't see the term 'OELVN' existing anywhere on the devblog. *checks* I don't see it on their website either. The 'about' text DOES describe it simply as 'a visual novel'. Where are ...

Re: OELVN - the rationale behind the name
I have, as of late, been using the term "EVN" as an abbreviation for English-language visual novel, in places such as Planet EVN . IMO, the term covers games produced in English, and first-party translations by the original creator. Hmm. Well, I DEFINITELY like that term better. At the ve...

Re: OELVN - the rationale behind the name
My impression is that the term "OELVN" feels like it's saying, "Here, this is something that's trying to be a visual novel." By the definitions I've seen, it isn't trying to be a visual novel, it is one . Interesting. Wiki actually points out Ren'Py - yet it makes no distinction...

OELVN - the rationale behind the name
I've been pondering about this question for a while - and vacillating back and forth as to whether or not I should make a post about it. I suspect it has the potential to be perceived as flamebait. But believe me, I have zero intention of making any waves here. I'm just honestly curious. That being ...

Re: [Suspended] Second Semester (iPhone)
That's a shame. But, I COMPLETELY understand where you're coming from. If you're not interested in a project, forcing it does you no good, nor does it do your audience any good. Lastly, I would hate for this tech to go to waste. If anyone has any *small*, well-done VNs and would like me to help port...

Re: Choice for beta testing
Wait...wait... I think I'm picking up on a common theme in everyone's responses. If you post on 4chan, you will not only be mocked, but mocking you might turn into a meme. This will happen regardless of the quality of your work. Heh heh. Well, I'm used to criticism and derision from hard-core otaku....
