Web Serial KN (and soon VN) Engine: Showpony!
WHAT UP!!!! I've been working on Showpony for the last few years, and realized I need to open it up more for feedback and to see where I can help people better. So I made a Discord for it. It's a pretty empty place right now, but if you're interested in hearing more and watching it's progress go her...

Re: Any web tools that you wish you had?
You're welcome! I hear you on balancing projects with everything else, that's still a WIP for me too. Another place that I just remembered: Casting Call Club I've sent you a friend request on Discord, under MI_Buddy. My profile pic is a baby orb goat in front of an army of orbs and... I probably oug...

Re: Any web tools that you wish you had?
Hey sasquatchii, Thanks for the input! Also, StoryDevs looks awesome, I'd never heard of it but just reserved a handle! It sounds like you're looking for places where you can connect with people around a game dev project: you'd post a project inviting people to get involved, rather than just saying ...

Any web tools that you wish you had?
I'm a web programmer and I've been making a lot of tools for my own projects (I've made Showpony and Looper for this KN , resource lists , experimental search tools ), but I'm interested to hear what you guys would like. I am most interested in stuff people would be willing to pay for (food is nice)...

Re: Writing process: focus on story first vs. world-building first?
Totally agree with Mammon and KrunchyFriedGames on developing story and character together. A technique that could help you in that process is the "Why" question. For example, maybe you're developing out your story and Susie needs to be driven to kill Bob. Sometimes you're just at a point ...

Re: Writing in 2nd Person?
The following two sentences are very different: "You find the person handsome." - this implies that based on the information already given, the player should find the character handsome. Now they find them handsome- not later with more info, but now. But if they don't find the person hands...

Re: Hatred for humanity
I feel like an interesting study is the episode of the Twilight Zone, "It's a Good Life" (I talk about creating powerful threats by starting with a dark heart, even if the character seems weak in and of themselves, in this podcast episode here , although maybe it mirrors enough of this dis...

Re: Bringing Characters Back to Life
The biggest thing that makes revivals feel cheap to me is when they come about as a result of some unforeshadowed ability. If something earlier in the story or in the story's world is relevant to a character coming back to life, IMO it should be referenced early. If things are foreshadowed effective...

Re: General Writing Help?
I've never written anything like a visual novel. First off, congrats on taking a step towards it then! I noticed you say this: Most of the things I write have a lot of description in them, but you don't need that in a visual novel. They're mostly dialogue, and everything you need description for is...

Re: Does anybody know how to write a point-and-click adventure game?
This is a super-frustrating problem IMO, I feel your pain. Something that's helped me a lot for game writing, if you're using Google Docs, go to View > Show Document Outline (I think most desktop writing apps have something similar). This makes it more practical to jump between spots for your script...

Re: Making Stories and Characters Vibrant and Fun?
First and foremost, I'd suggest if your characters/stories feel too dour to be enjoyable, you may need to dig into them further. As you and Ezmar discuss above, most good tragic stories include lighter moments (it isn't just games-- even Shakespeare's tragedies have pops of comedy). Not only do suc...

Re: Players name themselves vs. OC character
I think I'm in the minority, but I actually tend to actually feel pulled out of an experience when I set the MC's name to my own, unless I pick every piece of dialogue or path for the character- and even maybe then. It's inevitable that as the story goes, "Hey! I wouldn't say that!" "...

Re: Clean VN Recomendations
Ones that come to mind: Mimi Nezumi Juniper's Knot (dark content, some swearing IIRC) True Remembrance (I'm paranoid to mention this one, because there *might* be an underage romance (in this case 17 YO, but they look much younger) but the first time I read through I took it as more of a family-ish ...
