Re: New Year's resolutions and your VN development
Release my first VN (which was supposed to be published last year and is ironically called "The Deadline"), and start to work on a smaller but more creative project I'm already outlining. Also I'm hoping to spend at least 2 or 3 hours per week on reading VNs, which won't be that easy since...

Re: Seems like more VN devs aren't hiring editors/proofreaders nowadays
For low budget or semi-professional projets, I guess the developer just underestimate the importance of editing/proof-reading, especially for a text-centric medium as a VN. Or just overestimate their english proficiency. Personally, as a non-native english speaker who studied the language for a long...

Android version bug - Music won't stop when device is in standby
Greetings, as the title say, our issue is that, for the Android version we are releasing, the music from the game won't stop if the phone is putting on standby mode (of course, without shutting up the game first) - We tried this on a couple of devices and it seems a common problem. I couldn't find a...

Re: Creating a Team: How?
Nothing boosts motivation and lets you keep control with a team than good old money upfront - Of course if you trust you teammates, but if you don't, why work with them? Though sometimes especially in case you have a hard time with your budget, I think a compromise like sales royalties plus a resona...

Re: Looking for a native ENG Proof Reader
We've good a lot of proper applications, thanks to everybody.
We have found the right person, I would like if possible to keep the thread open in case we happen to need other proof readers or different roles in the near future, which is a possibility.

Looking for a native ENG Proof Reader
'Sup. We are a small italian team which is developing a Comedy VN about the troubled life of a young wannabe writer and his struggles. Though this is our first VN, we have a steady business in the italian publishing market. For reference, http://www.natividigitaliedizioni.it/ (Duh, I still have to t...

Re: Do you let your artists publish your commissioned art?
I was skeptical about sprites of the characters being published despite having no deadline for the VN yet, but frankly the good feedback they received was a nice motivational boost. The fact that my artist has a fairly decent visibility on social networks was helpful in this way.

Re: Small tip for VN devs
Good advice, in my case though I started to put in "examples" of sprites and backgrounds (like free samples which are gonna be changed to the "real thing" later on) while about halfway through the writing process, it helps me and my team to visualize the story and have a confirma...

Re: What kind of Personalities for a MC?
To me it doesn't really matter that much as long as the MC's personality feels coherent to his background and the setting on the VN. Both the "cool and brave" and the "awkward and shy" protagonists, which are kinda cliche-ish, can be both great or awful depending to that. For exa...

Re: Quick Time Events in Visual Novels
To make this feel like an integrated gameplay element spicing things up, they need to happen several times during the game. If you have an intro at the very beginning and then never bring it up again until the climax at the end of the route, it will still be jarring and un-fun, and treated as just ...

Re: How do you split profit in % of total sale for each role
I can't help to answer your direct question, I would say generally it's a good idea to pay proportionally for the hours of work each person put through, although there can be significant differences due to expertise and "seniority" of each team member (or field of work, but that is a trick...

Re: What got you into making visual novels?
Probably a different reason than most of other devs: we manage a niche digital publishing firm, and for a couple of years we struggled about the evolution of ebooks. I believe that the answer is: Visual Novel already are the evolution of ebooks, they just target the "wrong" market so outsi...

Re: Character with ambiguous gender or outright deceptive
Undertale and Super Solvers are both excellent examples of video games with agender (re: Undertale) and androgynous (re: Super Solvers) protagonists. In both games, the protagonist is just presented matter-of-factly (it's not highlighted in-game that their agender/androgynous), and in the Undertale...
