Okay, I solved the issue. I found all the instances of my label to make sure I hadn't misspelled any of the calls and noticed a rogue character in the display: †(see attached pic). By deleting the line, and the line above it, I was able to retype the label and... now everything works. I'd like to ...

As you can see here, https://www.renpy.org/doc/html/label.html#jump-statement you cannot return to where you jumped from with jump. So suppose you want to run the label whatever and then continue that code. In that case, instead of jump whatever label whatever: blahblahblah return You would do: cal...
