Re: Opinions on Player Data Tracking

I can definitely see how it would be interesting and tempting to collect as much player data as possible, but I think you'd be missing out on a lot if you started relying on just the data and your assumptions about what it means in order to make decisions about your future projects. For instance, yo...

Re: How to promote an unusual visual novel?

I think the idea of each route being about a different kind of love sounds really interesting. If you're looking for a one-sentence way to condense all that information, I would probably say something along the lines of, "A young half orc in desperate need of money to support his family joins a team...

Re: Strengths of Visual Novels as a Medium

If you are primarily an artist who wants to tell a story with their images, VNs are an option. Here is the thing though - I think the strength of VNs is not in the visuals, even though they are called "visual". An image-heavy VN is great, but it's not playing to the strengths of the medium - here c...

Re: A Ren'Py Template Maker (seeking feature suggestions)

I think it could be great if you tried to make it easy to integrate with some different accessibility options, like these ones ! I've been meaning to start including more stuff like this in my projects, and I would love it if a template like yours could make it less intimidating to try to get them a...

Re: Play me like you love me [matchmaking game]

This sounds really fun! I love the art style, and I like games where you can set up a bunch of different cute couples. Good luck with the rest of development! I'll be looking forward to the full release.

Re: Love Interest Mentioning Past Relationships

My impression is that it's mostly just a loud minority of people who get mad online about their video game love interests not meeting some weird "purity" standard. I don't think there's very much overlap of those people and people who are interested in indie EVNs anyway - I think a lot of the appeal...

Re: [Demo released!] The Light at the End of the Ocean [Friendship][Ontological Mystery][Point-and-Click][Commercial]

Big update: you can now play a short demo of The Light at the End of the Ocean ! I've updated the main post a bit with some more information related to that. It's about fifteen minutes long, with two alternate ways it can go depending on what you do during the point-and-click segment. Check it out a...

Re: How can I resize images within Ren'Py?

You can define the images like this:

Code: Select all

image YouSad_Smile = im.Scale("yousad_smile.png", 70, 100)
With the numbers replaced by the height and width you want in pixels.

Re: Normal or Fishy VN Company?

That "trial scenario" idea sounds extremely sketchy to me. I'd be very suspicious that they're just trying to get free work out of as many writers as possible, and that they'd be planning to use all the "trial" stuff in their completed project without ever hiring or paying anyone. The only extra wor...

Re: Help with bust/waist/hip measurement

That is in fact a very good point! I simply considered the understanding of these numbers to be normal, at least in the US, but this may just be a false assumption. I'm Canadian and not American, but I've discussed the convention of some games listing the characters' measurements with American frie...

Thanks for sharing this! Looks like it will be really useful for people who want their games to have customizable characters, and just fun to play around with too.

Re: How do I put it on steam?

This site explains the process of publishing your game on steam. It costs $100 USD and you'll need to fill out some tax paperwork, but it seems to be a pretty straightforward process, although I haven't tried it yet myself.

This looks great so far! I'll have to go through some of my personal lists of my favourite resources and submit them in case you haven't seen them. It seems like it will be a really helpful resource once it's all set up. :D

Re: How many in-game days should it take for characters to fall in love?

I don't think it's too uncommon for people to start dating pretty soon after meeting if they're really attracted to each other and one of them is confident enough to initiate things. It might be a little out of the ordinary for them to be saying they love each other that early in a relationship, but...
