Re: Love Interest Mentioning Past Relationships

My impression is that it's mostly just a loud minority of people who get mad online about their video game love interests not meeting some weird "purity" standard. I don't think there's very much overlap of those people and people who are interested in indie EVNs anyway - I think a lot of the appeal...

Re: [Demo released!] The Light at the End of the Ocean [Friendship][Ontological Mystery][Point-and-Click][Commercial]

Big update: you can now play a short demo of The Light at the End of the Ocean ! I've updated the main post a bit with some more information related to that. It's about fifteen minutes long, with two alternate ways it can go depending on what you do during the point-and-click segment. Check it out a...

Re: How can I resize images within Ren'Py?

You can define the images like this:

Code: Select all

image YouSad_Smile = im.Scale("yousad_smile.png", 70, 100)
With the numbers replaced by the height and width you want in pixels.

Re: Normal or Fishy VN Company?

That "trial scenario" idea sounds extremely sketchy to me. I'd be very suspicious that they're just trying to get free work out of as many writers as possible, and that they'd be planning to use all the "trial" stuff in their completed project without ever hiring or paying anyone. The only extra wor...

Re: Help with bust/waist/hip measurement

That is in fact a very good point! I simply considered the understanding of these numbers to be normal, at least in the US, but this may just be a false assumption. I'm Canadian and not American, but I've discussed the convention of some games listing the characters' measurements with American frie...

Thanks for sharing this! Looks like it will be really useful for people who want their games to have customizable characters, and just fun to play around with too.

Re: How do I put it on steam?

This site explains the process of publishing your game on steam. It costs $100 USD and you'll need to fill out some tax paperwork, but it seems to be a pretty straightforward process, although I haven't tried it yet myself.

Re: I made a website full of creative commons resources

This looks great so far! I'll have to go through some of my personal lists of my favourite resources and submit them in case you haven't seen them. It seems like it will be a really helpful resource once it's all set up. :D

Re: How many in-game days should it take for characters to fall in love?

I don't think it's too uncommon for people to start dating pretty soon after meeting if they're really attracted to each other and one of them is confident enough to initiate things. It might be a little out of the ordinary for them to be saying they love each other that early in a relationship, but...

Re: Sprites - art vs narrative description inconsistencies

I definitely don't expect a VN sprite to be constantly doing exactly what the text tells me they're doing. I see them as more of a somewhat abstracted representation of what a character looks like and what's going on in the scene. If you're describing them doing a really specific action like maybe t...

Re: Sentient dogs fight for social standing VN - Aug 23 release

Hey Quilly! I've been really enjoying playing this so far. I like how you gradually uncover the details of how this strange and unique world works, and the dog puns are hilarious! But I'm really stumped on getting the last three achievements I don't have yet: Best Ever Reali-Ti (BERT), Yours Truly, ...

Re: Character expressions not changing

I'm not sure if this is the problem, but I wonder if it has something to do with how you've defined the images? I've always done it with the character name first and then the description of the expression second, like "show kc shock1" and "show kc smile1" or something. That's the way the tutorial do...

Re: I have two question about flag and text box

For the first question, what you want is a persistent variable . The game will store that data even when you quit or load a different save. For the second one, this tutorial looks pretty good and has a section on character-specific textboxes: https://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=9233

Re: A very long common route and late character introductions?

This, absolutely. One thing that might help hold audience attention is sprinkling smaller choices that have either little or no overall impact; just letting the player engage in a decision that provides some sort of user input could break up the tedium of repeatedly clicking/tapping space. Looking ...

Re: A very long common route and late character introductions?

I don't think there's anything wrong with a long common route - especially since you've listed a lot of important events that are taking place during that time, which sound like they definitely justify the length. Just because a VN has a few different routes doesn't mean that when I start reading it...
