Re: NaNoReno 2020 General Recruitment Thread

Yo! I'm a music composer and would love to take part in NaNoRenO this year. I've made music for NaNoRenO projects in the past and it's fun to go about the task of creating high quality music very quickly. Here's some of the music I've already made for people: https://soundcloud.com/larryjonesmusic/f...

Re: Ways to make a "slice of life" story interesting?

Some good posts here! Another way to think about the same thing Set up a routine (e.g. Making dinner) Break it (they run out of ingredients) You need to establish the routine for long enough so that when you break it, it's clear what the routine was and that you've broken it,, but not so long it bec...

All of the logos look really beautiful too. Can't you just use all eight of them, like that? haha :p

Re: Ruins of Ralumnea [Fantasy/Story-Driven]

Also I'm writing down the script atm. I'll need to look for a proofreader afterwards, to make sure that there are less mistakes~ Especially since it's not my first language. Haha you might be sick of me by now but I wouldn't actually mind doing some proofreading if you want! :p The old lady / mayor...

Re: May I have honest critique of this song?

I like it a lot. It has a slightly intense atmosphere to me. I think the guitar works, and I wouldn't necessarily change any of it, depending on what you're using it for. I wouldn't worry at all about it "not going anywhere", it has different sections and it's a kind of minimalist loop whi...

Re: Projectstuck: How to pace yourself?

There's really only one piece of advice I have for you: If you want to get a project done, write at least a little every day. It doesn't matter whether it's just a single page or a single paragraph, but keep on working on it. Essentially, don't feel guilty when putting your project aside. Just don'...

Re: Eliminating all forms of "to be": Active Voice

I think the opposite, "to be" adds a directness to it and is very powerful verb Could you perhaps give an example of good "to be" sentences? (Passive) She was taken in for questioning. (Active) The police took her in for questioning. The difference here for me is the focus. In y...

Re: How long should it take to make a song?

No, that doesn't sound like an overly long time. You say that "surely it can't take this long"? Why not? Whilst it's possible to come up with great stuff quickly, music is a craft and it takes grafting away at and work. Even if you can improvise amazing game music, think of all the countle...

Re: How do you Collaborate with Musicians?

Good luck with that "retro/8-bit music with a Medieval tone" - I'd like to hear it :) BTW, why have you decided to use 8-bit music at all? The graphic style, you choose for your game should fit very well with medieval-like music, but I'm not sure about 8bit style. Anyway, it's your choice...

Re: How do you Collaborate with Musicians?

The collaboration will be different in each case. It's actually a relationship and every relationship is different. Essentially, what you are doing is co-creating something. There might be some give and take between you, but hopefully at least some of the ideas will be resonating in a mutual way. I ...

What is the overall feeling / mood / theme of your game?

The title theme can reflect that
