Re: Does the art clash?

I sort of... expect the background and character art not to match? It's neat if it does but so often it doesn't. I think what you have looks pretty good.

Re: [OPEN] anime VN style character design/sprite/CG artist/ Fanart artist

Hello! I wanted to peek in and endorse Tsukkiusa's work! I've been working with her on a set of sprites for an otome game for a few months now and she's prompt, responsive to change requests and in general does great work. This is Shane, looking skeptical.

Re: itch.io changed its ToS

No, I'm not really confused. I do feel very strongly that an overlooked part of that TOS is the fact that the license ends as soon as you decide to remove your stuff. Many other ToS I've seen the internet go up in arms over doesn't have that basic restriction, instead insisting on some sort of perpe...

Re: itch.io changed its ToS

How do you think the ToS is open to abuse? I've read the whole thread and I haven't figured that out, except for the person who believes there's no guarantee they'll honor the limitations of their ToS -- which, if you worry about that, the language is completely irrelevant in the first place.

Re: Expectations of convention vs. narrative

All I suggest is warning people. And, as many games do, labeling your ends. If something says ‘good end’ or ‘true end’ or ‘best end’ then nobody is going to assume they got a ‘bad end’. They may in fact be furious at you, but you have to tell the story you want to tell and just accept that it might ...

Re: bramble-child [kinetic novel, fairy tale]

To close this out: I implemented the first third of this kinetic novel as part of a beta test for Visual Novel Maker. It was released as a demo alongside a number of other games. I never mentioned it here and I don't know why. A couple months later I determined that I did not want to finish implemen...

Re: Fictional Real-World Locations

As somebody who lives near Seattle, I have to say, everytime I read something by somebody who hasn't spent any time in the area, I can tell and it throws me out of the story REALLY QUICKLY. As a result, I never ever write anything that isn't set in a location I can visit and explore at my leisure. (...

Re: Starting with the pinnacle, then gluing highlights

Well, there's the very common approach of 'top down design' or 'snowflaking' or 'outlining' for fiction. You start with a line or so, a blurb like you'd see in a magazine bestseller list. And then you iteratively expand that until you have a full story. That tends to start less with some random elem...

Re: How to make a socially awkward character...interesting??

There's a show simulcasting right now called Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku. The MC's boyfriend is socially awkward, although not really socially /anxious/. He's very quiet. In an ensemble with three others (all of which are louder, more outgoing and more dynamic than he is), he still absolutely sh...

Re: ~Moon Tea Creative - GUI and Design~

Hmmm... I'm always nervous making suggestions because I don't know how much work they'd be. But that said, here's two: * Something more ornate, with filigree and scrollwork instead of the clean lines of Fade, maybe with an animation of the filigree spreading across the screen for the menu-open. Doin...

Re: Ren'Py 7.0.0 Prereleased

When I try to use ID, even in the Tutorial game, it runs into problems on the scene command, showing a bunch of what looks like raw python code instead of bg names. I keep forgetting to take a screenshot, but I wanted to mention.

Re: Japanese voice actors / Seiyus

I was thinking that if you don't speak Japanese, and you just want the exotic sound of voices without comprehensible vocabulary, you could always construct a simple, emotive language and record native-English VAs speaking that, as some games and composers have done. (This would, obviously, work bett...
