Re: A sister site for Fuwanovel.com based around VN Creation
First of all, I suggest you drop your crusade against copyright. You want to make a site that promotes visual novels, that's fine. All this talk about copyright is just inviting needless drama. From what I've seen, you can't cope under all the trash talking which I think you brought upon yourself. D...

Re: Paying for an artist? Stop! Read this first.
What I don't like is if these high quality off the shelf assets end up being used by a shit writer or gamemaker. To me, it feels as though the assets are devalued, akin to somebody ripping from a commercial JVN and making his own game using the assets. I really hated when Sano Toshihide licensed hi...

Paying for an artist? Stop! Read this first.
If you're thinking of paying someone to do some character sprite and background art the DLSite have some high quality image sets that can be used in both freeware and commercial projects. Character Sprites http://www.dlsite.com/eng/work/=/product_id/RE039651.html Each pack comes in a set of 2 charac...

Re: Fuwanovel... the worst thing for the industry?
I guess the time has come to put down those flaming torches and pitchforks, the witchhunt is over. Also, everything people have seen in those screenshots like torrents and stuff are probably all fake photoshopped images. The idea is to let people see how everything looks.

Re: Fuwanovel... for bad or good?
... I also worry they could take OELVN and put them on the site too... You need not worry, Aaeru has no interest in OELVNs. Even before the introduction of that controversial site, Aaeru has always been vocal about spreading the joys of Japanese VNs to a wider audience. However, all this propaganda...

Re: would you play a vn with this art style?
Not to sound like a parrot repeating what everyone else is saying, but I'm going to have to say no as well. 3D Models work for almost any type of game, but visual novels is one type of game where using 3D Models does NOT work. This is pretty much the same response as the ones you got on VNDB. I woul...

Re: How do you advertise your VN?
Whether you like it or not, someone will eventually come along and add your game as an entry to the VNDB (Visual Novel Data Base http://vndb.org/) Good or bad, quality doesn't matter. If it exists, it's going in. There seem to be people out there that trawl through the internet, visiting forums, IRC...

Re: What is success for a VN?
Also, nice art goes a long, long way, more than good writing (writing only needs to be adequate). That's what I noticed. That's because good art gets them in the door - the writing is what makes them stay. Just like any form of advertisement, you have to attract the people first, then sell them on ...

Re: How Bad is a Bad Review?
There is something people should remember. A professional critic never uses the word "BAD." Once, a famous critic was shown a portrait to criticize. The portrait was horrible. But the critic didn't say that directly. He said "Fantastic! Beautiful! What a beautiful frame!" He did...

Re: You ever worry your work won't be taken seriously?
I agree with you. We are starting to see a steady rise in the quality of games on the board, and it seems a shame to not help get those games exposure and praise their accomplishments, just because we are afraid of possibly hurting feelings. To just lump everything in one pile on Renpy.org's game l...

Re: You ever worry your work won't be taken seriously?
This topic seems very familiar, and then I remembered. http://forums.novelnews.net/showthread.php?t=35926 This is what the Gemot community thinks of OELVNs, and the people who make them ie YOU. This brings back memories, if you're a sensitive OELVN developer, you may want to stay clear as some of th...

Re: You ever worry your work won't be taken seriously?
Are EVNs really just all lumped together and viewed as beginner fluff? Are people expecting EVNs to be filled with creative commons music and sprites, or worse, lifted sprites and music from other "real" VNs? I think the answer is "yes - but". If you go on to games.renpy.org, an...

Re: Creating custom transitions using mask image
That's a brilliant idea, to dissolve an image starting from the brightest area first. I never thought of doing things that way. After a bit of messing around with some numbers I finally achieved the custom transition I was looking for. Thanks for the help.
