Re: Interactive Fiction Writers Critique Group
I'm tempted, but I have a couple of questions first: *What does "critiques (not criticisms!)" mean? (I have a guess you don't mean criticism in the literary sense (:D), but bullying masquerading as "critique" - I just want to be sure.) And can we request a certain level of 'tough...

Re: POV shift
I think this is a fascinating idea! Real world relationships require participation by both (or more!) individuals involved -- why not a VN or dating sim that models itself after that? Well, the first reason I can think of is that it's probably harder to program, and the second is that the writing wi...

Re: Your ~Favorite~ cliches and tropes
At one point, it's fun to explore unrealistic and crazy paths because there is no true threat to one's self when immersed in a fantasy. Bingo. However, I also look at some shows and have the same reaction as pondr, thikning "are you crazy or just dense?" If we're talking about romance her...

Re: Any other good methods to reduce file size?
I think it's already been debunked upthread, but just in case...please, please, please do not squash the dynamics to try and save space. All it will do is mutilate the sound.
Then again, my ear might be more sensitive than normal to these things.

Re: Your ~Favorite~ cliches and tropes
I think the difference is supposed to be that "classic" is closer to a character who starts off brusque or even somewhat antagonistic in their relation to the MC, but slowly softens toward her or him. More along the lines of "Defrosting Ice Queen/King" (I think that trope was eve...

Re: The (Complete) List of Cliches
Haha, the Strange Horizons list is a classic. I think this is the first time I've seen it pop up outside of writing fora/sites, though. They also have a horror list, though it's shorter (and horror's not their main focus anyhow). @Mirage - the SH list is what the editors of that publication don't wa...

Re: NaNoRenO for 2011!!!!
The good thing about NaNoRenO being done April 1 is that if your game doesn't turn out well, you can say it was an April Fools joke! Face-saving contingency plan complete! :D I'm looking forward to all sorts of entertaining and creative stories! The first story that came to mind when I read that wa...

Re: [WIP] Prince' Knight(tentative title)
The first thing that jumped out at me when I read the description was the repeated use of the word "homo." I'm not sure about its use in other languages, but in English that word is a serious slur. I'm also worried about the treatment of homosexuality in the project description: there is a...

Re: NaNoRenO for 2011!!!!
Next NaNoRenO, I am going to make sure that I walk AROUND any treacherous icy spots. Typing and a sprained wrist do not go together. I'm already almost two days behind on the proofreading I volunteered for (again, the sprain makes it a pain to take notes), but I'm going to get that done and out tomo...

Re: Original Visual Novel Festival
I'm surprised no one has brought up the idea of just splitting into categories based on the amount of work put in. perhaps that's something to consider in the future (since it sounds like the organization would take to much effort to change again)? you could just make requirements for different cat...

What's the word count? Depending on length, I might be able to do it.

Re: NaNoRenO for 2011!!!!
The game contains 247 screens of dialogue. These screens contain a total of 3,030 words, for an average of 12.3 words per screen. The game contains 0 menus. I think I'm about a third of the way done. Then comes the slash-and-burn -- I'm already making notes now for what to cut and clarify later. If...

I think I like the idea of a virtual convention/showcase better than another contest, but it's not my call.

Re: NaNoRenO for 2011!!!!
Well, after a good night's sleep and some thought, I'm going to commit that story to NaNoRenO after all :D My own netbook has a resolution of 1024x600. Anything outside that in either dimension seems to work, but scaled down and letterboxed accordingly if it isn't the same ratio (e.g. 1280x600, 1024...
