Re: What do you think about VR visual novels?
I believe what felix is trying to say is that people are trying to shoehorn VR into games that never had any problems VR could fix. If you want to publish on the Apple App Store, it's about $100 USD a year. Here's another perspective about the Indiepocaplyse: https://www.gdcvault.com/play/1025672/20...

Re: Best way to do sprite poses
Hmm another option could be creative wardrobe manipulation. If you gave the dominant character a long cape, you could draw a dejected pose with him huddling his entire body under his cape. That way you can change his clothes, but the dejected pose wouldn't need to change for as long as he wears a ca...

Re: Best way to do sprite poses
It's hard to say which type of pose changes will be most effective without knowing the personalities/archetypes of your characters. For more reserved or lethargic characters, you can get away with minimal changes to the default pose. Dramatic, energetic characters will need more drastic pose changes...

Re: (first post) i draw whit paper, does that work for a vn?, also what should i have to be a selectable part of a team
The barest of requirements to apply for a team is to have a portfolio. It can be a thread on Lemmasoft (Recruitment & Services Offered > I am an Artist), tumblr, twitter, or (my preference) an artstation site. It doesn't matter how you create a sprite (most of the time), as long as the sprite ba...

Re: When to start coding / commissioning a GUI?
(Ok I think I kinda understand what you're asking, so I hope I'm not completely off the mark this time.) This is how I usually work if there's preexisting art assets. Before that, two things: 1) I'll be using sprites as an example, but the general principles will be the same for UI and 2) this is my...

Re: When to start coding / commissioning a GUI?
I would say that you should've spent more time figuring out the art direction before you commissioned any art at all. But since you already have lineart, you can use that as a point of reference in your document (unless you decide to commission new ones). Ideally, you would first make a document wit...

Re: What questions would you like to ask other visual novel creators?
If you really want to write a thesis based on the development and production of VNs, I suggest you make one first. Also, read the wikipedia page on the history of adventure games. There's a lot of overlap with adventure games and VNs, and it'll help you to know where they diverged. While I don't kno...

Re: The philosophy of adding Gambling element in a game
It depends on a few factors:
- Does the number of coins or items bought by coins block the player from advancing the main objective?
- Will it unlock extra content?
- Is it a micro-transaction, a free game or a one-time pay game?

Re: Free vs Paid Visual Novels
I would play a free VN over a paid one if it's easily accessible. Meaning if it's a browser-based game that only requires me to click on a button to start, it's more likely I will play it. On the flip side, I would pay for a game from a developer that has a track record of making games I enjoy. If i...

Re: When it comes to trying to make the MC neutral.
While I do like the idea where you decide the basic socioeconomic, cultural and gender status of a main character, it creates a massive amount of work if you want it to affect the story and NPC dialog. Even with only three options of each of these categories, it means you will be mapping out 27 diff...

Re: Which format/resolution/etc is best to order character sprites from the artist in?
Target (main) resolution is 1920x1080. The layout of UI is pretty standard (not that much different from the default RenPy UI). What type of file (size/resolution/etc) should I ask for artist to provide? And in which format? Should it be .psd or .png image is fine too? If you want to be strict abou...

Re: Which format/resolution/etc is best to order character sprites from the artist in?
There are some level of standards to ordering art from artists, though ordering through Lemmasoft seems to have pretty loose standards (I've never had anyone make me sign an NDA or clarify division of rights). If you want a baseline for what you should prepare when commissioning an artist, you shoul...

Re: Visual novels and "Interactivity"
The problem with more interactivity is that it becomes an extra aspect of a game that needs prototyping/testing/balancing, which translates into almost double the amount of work. It is probably by far the biggest reason why VNs with very little interactivity happens to be the most popular type of VN...
