Re: Translating string variables depending on other variable? (toggleable localizing names)

I think if you use something like: (...) That's how I have the names set up for changes in the game, but I didn't thought about changing language-depending variables in main script! Good idea, maybe if I put it in a function that will run each time the player toggles button it might work... But the...

Translating string variables depending on other variable? (toggleable localizing names)

Hi! So I came up with some idea for my game, but I can't figure out how to make it work. I have persistent variable to toggle True/False from Preferences menu, that should affect certain translation words and phrases in languages other than English. I figured how to do it with normal dialogues, but ...

Re: Staying motivated when projects aren't successful?

It's hard not when I see it everywhere, and that's always been an issue for me when seeing other successful games. I wish I'd said something before, but—well—it's embarrassing to admit. It makes me seem weak and petty, and maybe I'm both those things. You see, that's an issue many developers have. ...

Re: Staying motivated when projects aren't successful?

The answer is simple: Keep going, take a step back and look where you are. Rethink what you did good, and what mistakes you made. Educate yourself about management and marketing. Do some market research. Have a good business plan. DO NOT compare yourself to hit games, that's where you fail. DDLC was...

Re: Hiring musician Advice please

-If you hire a musician for a music tracks (BGM) and then later i want to sell the ost of the visual novel, would i have to pay the musicians fee aside of what i payed for creating those custom tracks? Depends on the agreement you made. Some might want to have royalty split (not reccomended), other...

Re: Is my character art good enough? (please critique)

Looks really nice! I can't even make my chibis that good lmao. The shading on the hair looks totally superb. The shading on the skin can look sharper, because it's really small. Depending on the type of chibi, you might want to make the neck look smaller so that it's more proportional to the body i...

I tried some cute chibi with different lineart and coloring/shading style. I know it's not perfect, but any feedback will be appreciated!

Re: About Atom editor and Ren'Py

I was also using Atom before it was officially announced to be included in RenPy. What I love about it, is that modern, highly customizable interface. For example, I installed minimap plugin to easier navigate through scripts (reccomended!). And what's the best feature, is memory where I left the fi...

Re: Any interest in creating visual novels using Unreal 4?

I've been using Unreal Engine for a veeery long time, I even tried to make my own VN system when I was working on my first game, and came with few conclusions. 1) It's way too overkill for such simple game (mechanics wise). Basic UE4 has pretty high requirements to run, even without art maxed out. A...

Re: How long should be a game at minimum?

I'd say the length should be as much as it should be. There's no point to artificially expand it. For example, my game on Steam takes roughly and hour, maybe even less if you're fast reader, for one playthrough, but has replayability. Even though you can finish it very fast, under the refund limit, ...

Re: How do you credit people in your VN?

It also depends on kind of license and if something is written about it. Some licenses do allow to not credit at all (some from CC series)! Or, some sources allow to make credit list on website, and link it in game. For example: Something from WEBSITE.com Full list available here - [link] Or just: F...

Re: Is my character art good enough? (please critique)

It's been some time, I don't have as much time as I'd like to practice drawing, but here's something I drew recently I'm happy with :D

Fullbody sprite practice. I tried sketch with soft/cel-shading.

Re: How do you reverse languages

Well, depending on length of your game, you can do it by hand...
Just old style, copy-paste, so that default language is translated English and your original French copied to generated translation files.

I tried to test Launcher "Reverse translations" on test project but it didn't seem to work.
