Re: Caffeine: Victoria's Legacy [Fantasy][Anime] DEMO Available
I've gotten to the point where you meet Eliza in the library. Overall, I found it very enjoyable. The production values are high, and it becomes apparent early-on that this is a step above most OELVNs. Seeing a story centered so much on coffee was pure joy. I love drinking espresso and find it to be...

Re: Am I Being Paid Fairly?
Thanks for the advice guys. You've made a good point about not looking at the percentage when deciding how much I should be getting paid, because it's true, I wasn't involved in the following they've garnered until now, so it isn't right of me to be expecting a cut of that. Once I've proven myself ...

Re: Advice on Possible Contest
I am a writer (self-published, but still...) and don't find the terms too disagreeable. As has been said before, contests are very tricky things and you could get into some legal trouble regardless if all parties agree with the rules. Contests for book covers exist and are done successfully: https:/...

Re: Bringing Characters Back to Life
Buffy the Vampire Slayer did this twice (well, maybe three times) to great effect. Spoilers for a 15 year old show: When Angel is "sent to Hell" (AKA killed), he comes back scarred and feral. He is a shell of his former self, forced to rediscover himself. At one point after he comes back, ...

Re: Writing visual novels that are geared toward adults
Using book lexicon would be a good place to start. Putting aside the sci-fi/fantasy genre, you have Middle Grade (MG), Young Adult (YA), and New Adult (NA). MG covers younger children, typically around middle school age. YA roughly covers everything from 14 to 19 years old, and covers themes like fi...

Re: What's Best for Voice Actors
It seems inconsiderate to not have things like word count finalized before you look for voice actors. A difference of 30,000 words would be a difference of several hours of work for the voice actors.

Hello! I really like your work. Could you provide some examples of what Simple, Medium, and Complex backgrounds would be?

Re: How many words should I aim for?
My suggestion, especially if you've never written anything longer than 5k words, is to outline. Write your scenes as bullet points. Then, write them all. After you're done writing everything (and NOT before you finish writing it all), go ahead and edit. If you feel like it ends up being too short, t...

Re: Starting with the pinnacle, then gluing highlights
There's no right or wrong way, but the following general approach will likely get you where you want to go without requiring substantial rewrites: 1. Establish genre (like the love story example you mentioned). Genres are malleable and sometimes difficult to pin down, but they each have some inviola...

Re: How to make a socially awkward character...interesting??
Some traits of a loner that you can show off in your dialogue to make them more believable includes: - Have them appear bland and cold; if someone congratulates them for a job well done, they should have little to no reaction. - Is oblivious to social cues. If there's a situation, they might do thin...

You mention progress on your demo, but do you also have an idea of what you'll need for the full game?

Re: American University Life [18+ RomCom, School life, SoL]
I played through the demo! I liked it! Some comments: - Having Tamara open the room with keys seems a little too low-tech, especially compared to the self-driving cars and all the smartphone use. It's a tiny thing, but it stood out to me. - There were a few minor typos, like "homliness" in...

Re: How much should someone expect to make from their visual novel?
Hmm, I think you're conflating advertising with marketing? I'm no expert on either, but something where you have a lead magnet and get emails without having to pay a company to display your content sounds more like marketing, as does any emails you send out once you have a list. iirc, advertising i...

Re: How much should someone expect to make from their visual novel?
Reading through, it's interesting how they mention advertising. Self-publishing authors are very adamant about setting up mailing lists and spending at least 10% of the writing time on advertising. Amazon Marketing Services makes this particularly easy, and it's how I suspect I've gotten most of my ...
