Re: Looking for ideas: Precrime Story Critique
I appreciate everyone for their suggestions. I've been able to straighten out the plot. Most of the issues I ran into have been resolved. I am still trying to figure out how the player figures out WHEN the crimes happen. (As in day and time.) Each premonition could show a clock in the background or...

Happy Thanksgiving
Hi, I know I'm really new here, so me posting this kind of thread could be taken the wrong way, but I just wanted to wish everyone, even our non-American users, a Happy Thanksgiving. So, if you don't mind me asking, what are you thankful for? I'm thankful for all the great tutorials and explanations...

Re: Permadeath - also across savegames?
Is this possible? Ie, an actual permadeath, forcing a player to have to start over again? I was sort of thinking of something like this: define persistent.permadeath = False # then, if later the permadeath event actually happens, change this to persistent.permadeath = True And, perhaps do a check f...

Re: Parsing Error: "Ren'Py Can't Understand Tabs"
Generally I would post the error message, but it was just the standard Parsing Error: An uncaught exception occurred: While parsing, scriptfileinquestion.rpy contains a tab character on line ###. Tab characters are not allowed in Ren'Py scripts. Or something to that effect. There's really no details...

Parsing Error: "Ren'Py Can't Understand Tabs"
So, here's the thing... I've used tab before, and it's ALWAYS been interpreted by Ren'Py as 4 spaces. Now, however, it isn't interpreting it and saying that there is an issue with my script. The problem is: even when I delete those tabs, turn them into actual spaces, Ren'Py is now interpreting those...

Re: Customizing Save Slot Info. HELP!
It's working now! Thanks buddy. Haha. 😁 This case is SOLVED! Mind if I ask what ended up being the solution? This way, people can look at your example and figure out where they may be going wrong. Your code worked perfectly after I tried using it on the default save screen (I modified my previous s...

Sure, why not. I don't mind helping out a bit. :) My recommendation is this: Since you're wanting this to be short with quality over quantity, the story should be about an hour to 2 hours in length no matter what given route with the route being decided in the first 20-30 minutes of playing (based ...

Re: make stat building events more interesting?
If you haven't done so yet, play Persona 5. I can't speak for earlier installments, but Persona 5 made it so that your actions resulted in stat changes, but you'd have different actions per stat. For instance, while you could study and raise your intelligence, you could also answer questions correc...

Re: Too many sad backstories???
Sad backstories aren't a bad thing, but if you feel like you don't want your characters to have sad backstories, all you have to do is change it. Bruce Wayne became Batman because his parents were murdered. But, what if his parents never died? He could very easily have become Batman just because he ...

Re: What makes a good Fighting/Action Scene?
The question should specify if the story is plot-driven or character-driven. In a plot driven story, katy133 has the best answer. In a character-driven story, you should still use katy133's answer as a baseline, but think "how does each action reflect my character's characterization?" If y...

Re: Minimizing extra writing
So, what you want to do is make it so that points are added only after a character is introduced, yes? In which case, why not set the appearance of a character as a variable and limit/prevent the number of points earned based on if that variable is True/False? if AnneMet = True: $ annepoints += 1 if...

Re: Switching POV for one scene?
I have a story which is told primarily in the protagonist's point of view, but in order to "set the stage" so to speak, the prologue is written in the POV of the protagonist's romantic interest. I have no intention of ever switching to the romantic interest's POV at any other point in the...
