Re: Why do YOU like/play/read/make VNs & Kinetic Novels?
I like VN's because they often give you a say, a choice in stories. To me, games were always a thing to express oneself, to live the MC's life and make choices and decisions as I would see fitting to myself (or to the protagonist, if they have fixed personality). Linear stories simply bore me. There...

Re: Difficulty scaling
I haven't yet made or worked on any statsim game, but from player's perspective can give you some insights that may be useful: As already stated above, LLTQ did very well in that regard with it bad+alternative endings, but the best implementation of this I think I've seen in Gaokao100days . Your end...

Re: Tsundere - heaven or hell?
I tried to give my tsundere girl also a sweet side - and in a flash back some cute scenes from her childhood (see scnreenshot). But of course it's difficult as a creator to tell whether that worked... :? They key to a tsundere personality is being "bittersweet" - she "melts", wh...

Re: Solo Developers: How to promote your VN?
Good idea. Thanks! :D What website would you recommend? Wix comes to my mind. It's easier to design a page following my VN's aesthetic. I could update anytime without spamming the community. Well I'm building mine on uKit. It is the most simple one. But Wix, Squarespace, Wordpress etc are good opti...

Re: Solo Developers: How to promote your VN?
It is always hard to make a name for yourself when you have no previous track record in the industry at all. I'm also a solo developer, slowly working on my first commercial project ,so this topic is relevant for me as well. I second the propositions of @VillainousClown above - but If you ask me, I ...

Re: Hello artists! How much do you prefer to charge for art?
Largely depends on what you need, yes. I'm not an artist but I've been recently buying characters for my VN, so had a lot of communication with artists, and can share my experience on this from the perspective of a buyer: Character of decent quality (think Sakura series, Muv-Luv, Venus Blood - rough...

Re: When it comes to trying to make the MC neutral.
While having customizable MC sounds cool, it is not really best option for VN. When I was only a gamer, I always wondered why there aren't many RPG's (not only VN's), with fully backstory-wise customizable MC's. Now as a devloper I see why. Because you will either: a) Complicate things too much, whi...

Re: Free vs Paid Visual Novels
Basically what I'm asking is: how do you view free vs paid games? Do free games immediately turn you off or does the price tag not matter at all to you? Free games *doesn't* turn people off - quite the contrary. As of the choice...it depends on your goal - what do you want to achieve with your game...

Re: Which format/resolution/etc is best to order character sprites from the artist in?
If you want to be strict about export sizes, create a 1920x1080 PSD file and give it to the artist to use as a template. You can also add a box to define a crop area too, like this . I can't really give you an exact pixel size you should ask for in a sprite since there's other variables, like what ...

Re: Which format/resolution/etc is best to order character sprites from the artist in?
There are some level of standards to ordering art from artists, though ordering through Lemmasoft seems to have pretty loose standards (I've never had anyone make me sign an NDA or clarify division of rights). If you want a baseline for what you should prepare when commissioning an artist, you shou...

Which format/resolution/etc is best to order character sprites from the artist in?
Hi, so I want to order characters from an artist for my VN, but not sure about details. I am a lazy person and I don't really use separate expressions, I just use full sprites with different expressions each. While working with free assets, I noticed that they have a wide variety of formats/aspect r...
