Re: Customizing/Changing Rollback function in Renpy

I have written a comic viewer and managed pretty much this exact problem. Thing is, if you have explicit "pages" as a concept, rollback is just not how you want to manage "go to previous". It would work fine if the only way to read your novel was by starting at page 1, but sooner or later you're goi...

When you have a screen button with a Return() action, that says "this screen is done and should go away". The control flow you're talking about is complicated and I'm not sure offhand how to make it work, though I'm sure it's doable. I'd experiment with some combination of: * `show` instead of `call...

Re: How to store a bunch of different InputValues efficiently?

What is that store object? `store` is where renpy actually holds all variables you define, as part of the magic that allows rollback to work. So, for instance, the idiom to see if you've defined a variable yet is if hasattr(store, "varname") `character_profiles` and `store.character_profiles` are u...

Re: While playing your ren'py game, is there a way to output the currently executed code as you're clicking around?

There are callbacks on labels, so you can log what labels you've passed through: init python: def label_callback(name, abnormal): renpy.log("label " + name) define config.log = "debuglog.txt" config.label_callback = label_callback There are more developer tools documented here: https://www.renpy.org...

Re: Multiple Menus Not Working

Hey! So in addition to the regular position of the menu, I have two others I use occasionally: at the middle and at the bottom. But I'm having some problems. When the bottom menu is activated, everything looks good EXCEPT that the menu choices are shown again at the top left of the screen. They're ...

Re: vbox correction problem

The lines `style style.choice_button` are your problem. That tell's renpy to use the choice_button style for those textbuttons, and choice_button is defined by default in gui.rpy to be centered on the screen with a long horizontal background bar. It's the default style used by choices from the menu ...

Re: [SOLVED]How To Display Items In List Without u' Symbol

Check the post in this thread: https://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=62344&p=543534#p543534 , by Ocelot ... He provided the solution which only requires two lines of code. The 'join' version is an extra line, every time you substitute a list. The subclass version is a couple dozen l...

Re: Help find or make SIMPLE, non-linear methodology to manage game states: dialog, combat, navigation, plot flag?

I'm just trying to figure out the basic framework, at the most rudimentary level. Your original ink you gave me is definitely the major element. I was just hoping there was a tried and true methodology. A bare bones framework that would cut a few days of development time. I'm trying to avoid doing ...

Re: Typing in Java on Renpy?

I really just want to use setters/getters and instances to do this. Python has classes, getters and setters, so you can use the Java idioms if you really want to. But ultimately it's a very different language and you're going to have to learn at least some of it, and also Ren'py which is three more...

Re: Recognizing a random quote

What I was wondering is, is it possible to make it so that if you have seen a certain quote, something else happens? Say, if you saw "Example quote 3" you get an extra menu choice? sort of like renpy.seen_image default seen_quotes = set() # set instead of list because sets ignore duplicates menu: "...

Re: Renpy 7.4.5 refuses to make a new project at 1920x1080 resolution.

I think the only thing that choice actually does is set this code at the top of gui.rpy: init python: gui.init(1920, 1080) So you can probably just pick whatever then edit gui.rpy yourself. (The only full-screen artwork I can think of in the default theme is the plain blue-grey background for the ma...

Re: To maximize compatibilty, can I use _ or - in folder or filenames?

Any of these characters in filenames will cause you pain sooner or later: / * " | \ [ ] : ; , < > + = (and maybe) ! ? @ Underscore `_` and hyphen `-` should both be fine. the completist documentation is here, for if you want your game to run on Amiga or Commodore 64: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fi...
