Re: Is it possible to earn $5000 a month making visual novels?

I also wanna make clear that there is nothing wrong with having a $5000 per month income as your goal. Go after those dreams, hustler. But starting with a small goal and then raising the bar will help you keep your confidence and work consistency. Like ex. "I want to earn at least $50 with my V...

Re: Is it possible to earn $5000 a month making visual novels?

I mean, I live in the States, Even as a Starbucks worker, I was NOT raking in 45K a year (I wish, but I guess if you're working a very busy Starbucks in an expensive area and you're the general manager, 45K is plausible). You guys are counting in health insurance, PTO, other benefits but it's kind o...

Re: A Monster's Insight [NaNo2021][Horror][Mystery][Sci-Fi]

I tried out this game and I was blown away. Incredible. It's got a lot of style. First off, the art. Really puts out a nice gruesome look, the cloud effects are cool and work well with the music. The location of the game is unique and stands out. I'm truly in another world. My favorite monster desig...

Re: Is it possible to earn $5000 a month making visual novels?

Well, it depends of what that amount is meant to be. 1) Money from the sale ? Then, there might be nothing left once you refund what you had to invest into making the game and promoting it. 2) Profits ? Then, depending of the country you live in, you might have to give more than half of it to taxes...

Re: Is it possible to earn $5000 a month making visual novels?

Also take in the fact that $5000 is A LOT. Like how much do you spend a month total (rent, food, car bill, living expenses, etc.)? How much do you want to save into your retirement fund monthly? For a lot of people, even in first world countries, that number is going to be lower than $5000.

Re: Is it possible to earn $5000 a month making visual novels?

Possible, very possible to do it. But you have to work your butt off and you have to love what you're doing. I totally feel OP though. I used to be so obsessed with the numbers. But I highly recommend working a normal job you can tolerate and making VNs as a hobby (that you LOVE and ENJOY doing, I r...

Re: How to use choices for VN storytelling

I really enjoyed reading your article. A lot of things to think about. The thought of using certain choices to help with the story's pacing blew my mind. Thank you!

I agree with Felix. Pay-For-What-You-Want seems to be the best of both worlds for you. Itch.io offers that option for game devs.

Re: Best ways to spend a small marketing budget?

For marketing and seeing some really interesting game sales studies, I highly recommend following Chris Zukowski's blog: https://howtomarketagame.com/
He occasionally does marketing experiments and there are lots of gold nuggets to read about on his site.

Re: A VN with only two characters

A VN with only two leads can be an intense and thrilling story if you know what you're doing. I really recommend watching The Lighthouse starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe, it's a masterclass on a two character only story.

Re: Am I hurting my VN by NOT using an Anime style?

If you could find an artist who could draw as beautifully as Glen Keane (amazing Disney artist), I'm pretty sure you'd have a very pretty VN that just stands out amongst all the anime style VNs.

Re: How can you judge what is a "reasonable amount of time" to be working on a game?

I think it helps a lot if you genuinely enjoy the process of making the game. Even if you are excited by your game's concepts and ideas, if you get distracted every time you try to code, draw, write, etc. for your game or you keep putting off the development b/c you'd rather do something else, then ...

Re: K-Pop Management Simulator [Simulator] [Point+Click/Visual Novel Game]

I personally love KPOP, but if you did heavy research in how K-Pop trainees are selected, trained, and debuted and how very few Kpop bands make it, seeing that research in a Kpop management game would be really neat and interesting. Or you could go in a complete power fantasy direction and make the ...

This game looks really good. I love princely girls. Might go ahead and buy it later this week after my paycheck comes in.
