Warning: changing the mouse cursor
A warning for those of you who change the mouse cursor in-game: I had in a previous version of Ren'Py changed the mouse cursor using something like setattr(config, "mouse", {"1": [("images/1.png", 20, 20)]}) This somehow doesn't work anymore in version 7.5.1 of Ren'Py! There is no error message, but...

Re: Do any of you use real life images in your games?
Yes, a lot of the backgrounds in The Last Secret are photos (either creative commons or those I took by myself for the game) processed with various software and with hand-drawn corrections and add-ons (like light rays, reflections etc.). Here are some examples (one pic, three short videos): https://...

Re: How to skip the menu *once*
Wow! Thank you very much! That was some Voodoo-Ren'py-Magic, but it works like a charm.

Re: How to skip the menu *once*
Thank you, but unfortunately, it's not that easy: I want the game to start directly (the first time), not just have it call a tutorial there. (The tutorial is integrated into the game start, so I don't want to make it "stand alone".)

Re: The Last Secret [Puzzle][Slice of Life][Sci-Fi][Romance]
The game will be released on August 31. The first reviews are pouring in already: there was a very nice one in the DGoZ, and now Indie Spotlight has also reviewed it and gave it a pretty good 85% rating: https://www.xblpartypodcast.com/post/indie-spotlight-july-2 If you want to wishlist the game on ...

How to skip the menu *once*
How can I skip the main menu depending on whether a certain (persistent) variable is set? (More precisely, I need to skip the main menu only the first time the player plays the game.) I know about label main_menu: return But this skips the game always and I don't see any way to put this into an IF c...

Roll back after right click?
Right click be default shows the menu. That confused several test players (all VN beginners) a lot. I therefore took that out by removing it from the keymap with $ config.keymap['game_menu'].remove('mouseup_3'). Now I got the request that right click should roll back one line. That also makes sense,...

Re: [solved] Translation of strings
You probably used $ hike = "m" instead of $ hike = m . *face palm* Yep, that's it. This would have been the easy solution. Just define a new speaker hike wither as m or k and then use that throughout this section. I'm certified stupid. Next time I'll program something like this, I know how to save ...

Re: Translation of strings
You can write your string with substitution inside like call hike_say(_("This is a sample, addressing the player with the player's name in a variable: Hello [playername]!") and use [ . . . !ti] to interpolate translated string. Okay, I need to digest this interpolation thingy, but it sounds cool. B...

Re: Translation of strings
I suggest: call hike_say(_("This is a sample, addressing the player with the player's name in a variable: Hello {nw}")) extend "[playername]!" Okay, that's an elegant workaround, thank you!. I should have come up with that, too. :? Looks like I'm not smart enough. EDIT: However, it doesn't w...

Re: Translation of strings
I have changed the function as described: label hike_say(text): if hike=="Meilin": m "[text!t]" if hike=="Karina": k "[text!t]" return Now most cases work, but not unfortunately, not all, since there is one more special case, namely constructions like this: call hike_say(_("This is a sample, address...
