Re: Human immortality through artificial bodies?
Oh, realized I missed some posts here. Jumping in again with a non-philosophical question, just because it's bugging me... If everyone went digital with their brains, could the shifting of the Earth's polarity as is being anticipated right now be a threat to the human race in a way it isn't currentl...

Re: Human immortality through artificial bodies?
Just wondering, is Kuroneko talking about "true immortality"? 'Cause a human that is simply biologically immortal will still find time to be in short supply, I think. You've got to put food onto the table for one thing, since you're still susceptible to starvation. Same goes for uploaded p...

Re: Human immortality through artificial bodies?
Talking about the implications of immortality in this thread seems totally on topic to me.Posting one or two OOT post is OK too in general discussion, but turning it into a debate about another topic is not nice to the OP.

Re: Human immortality through artificial bodies?
lol Arelune, you and wakagana certainly aren't the minority in the general human population. It would see that there may be some sort of selection effect on the people who posted in this thread so far. (which is not surprising) Aside from all the consequenses on demographic etc. Why do you all want ...

Re: Human immortality through artificial bodies?
Honestly, if I were to become immortal, I'd rather keep my own body. I think some sort of modification would be necessary if you want to indefinitely store new information in your memory, since your current biological brain will run out of space. Of course you could overwrite your memory...but most...

Re: Human immortality through artificial bodies?
Maybe it's because I haven't looked through their site for long enough, but I did my best to scan it for 5 minutes, and I can't find any concrete science that would back up their plans for the project? Their ETAs for avatars B, C, and D are way too early. For B: in 15 years we'll develop enough tech...

Now...any ideas on what awesome ability could this "voice acting" possibly be?
(no, I cannot guess either)

Re: Happy little clouds, happy little trees...
Well, I may have had a not-so-normal childhood as I was not familiar with Mr Rogers for most of it (but of course I now know who he is thanks to cultural osmosis). I painted along with Bob Ross weekly a long time ago, but even back then I would have been watching reruns of his show after he had died...

Re: Get that thing off your chest... Now...
Try to make your surroundings bright (turning on lights, lamps, etc). I think I recall a study in which environmental luminosity actually affects mood. (so it's not just a story metaphor where dark=gloom) Which of course, also leads to similar things as suggested above...spend more time in the brigh...
