Re: Public Domain - HD Sky Background Images

Was browsing the Unity asset store this morning, making pre-game preparations, and I almost bought my own clouds. Haha, brought a smile to my face.

Great 1st post dp4. Your mad hero has great style and I love those block shoes :)

I'm dumping this girl because her ugly dead hands are so 2012. I think the time has come for me. Tomorrow I begin work on my very own VN - muhaha!

Re: What's a fair way to price games?

I've noticed indie titles seem to be gravitating to the $5 mark as the high end. It seems to be an attractive price across multiple platforms. I think the days of pricing low budget games for PC $15 or above are over now. The general rule should be to price the game as low as possible, free if you c...

Re: Machinima, Microsoft, and YouTube's Partner system

It is, as you all know, impossible to create certain works without using assets or programs of some sort. In our current copyright setup, which is unnatural to the extreme, those individuals with money may create and those without money may not. Pseudo sciences calls it "cost of entry" and I find th...

Re: Machinima Entreprenuers/Artists punished by Microsoft

How irksome. This is Microsoft being the Microsoft they have been since day one. I'm sorry it effects you though hopefully less large companies won't follow suite anytime soon.

Re: Game resolution

I use dual displays of 1920 x 1200 on one and 1920 x 1080 on the other and I have no problems playing 640 by 480 up-scaled if the game is good and visuals well done. I was a high res whore myself until I found gog.com Now I place resolution middling to low on my priority list where it belongs. After...

Re: Game resolution

The Walking Dead Game episode 1 received many complaints about the level of compression used on the sound. People were irate that the developer compromised the audio quality to reduce the download footprint. They quickly released a patch that switched out the audio with a less compressed version. Do...

Re: Game resolution

The other problem with jpegs, and all lossy compression formats, is the effect on quality of compressing an already compressed image. Jpeg compression works badly on jpeg artifacts. If you must fit your game on a 5 1⁄4-inch floppy, convert the png to jpg only after you are sure it won't be touched. ...

Re: Game resolution

png is the way to go. It holds alpha, can be opened in web browser and is lossless, even with compression. Jpeg compression of an 800x600 image upscaled is quite noticeable and even more so with anime style images (solid colors and lines).

Re: Game resolution

I'd say 800 x 600 because that will save some valuable time in the image creation/editing department. Just take masking for instance. I can fidwinkle a mask out of any 800 by 600 image. 1920 by 1080 is less indie friendly.

Re: Art Dumpage! Show your art ^^

It was sculpted in zbrush over a period of 3~4 months, as of that render. Decimated and rendered in mental ray through max. No real post to speak of, maybe levels. It was mostly to test out the Mike Nash 'Fake It' render setup for Mental ray I had just purchased. Excellent kit, by the way. Easy to b...
