Automated lipsyncing + blinking + animation now works.

This game is also partially voiced. Maybe fully voiced at some point.

This rule is intended to allow for significant update (like initial and final releases), while limiting how many minor updates to a game get posted.

Re: Creating a Topic for your Game

"Updates to Patreon-backed games may be posted once every 2 months."

I am interpreting this as "only one paywall post every 2 months," because although I have a patreon, it is not a huge source of funds, and when I post here, the update is not behind a paywall.

Correct?

People always ask for character bios and I never remember.

Except this time!

So without further ado, the villain of the piece:

I'll update THIS post with character bios as I finalize more art.

Re: Why do YOU like/play/read/make VNs & Kinetic Novels?

From a writing perspective, I really like the script format of engines like Ren'Py (although I'm currently using Naninovel for Unity, which has a similar approach). Ink is another good one. I've tried using "node-based" workflows and it would not be an exaggeration to say I hate them. (Articy Draft ...

Re: Have you ever made a Visual Novel with multiple POV characters?

Yes, I did. ( Tell a Demon ) It required a massive spreadsheet. But it was a lot of fun to write, because protagonists can romance other protagonists (I was definitely snickering while writing some of these scenes...) But yeah... lots of spreadsheet organization required and story-bug-fixing after a...

I hate prophetic dreams. I say this as someone about to have one. -Tetrine Reish You play as Tetrine Reish. You hid your ability to read and write Nell Magic for years - until your secret got you killed (in the events of Asher ). Alive once more, but forever changed, you must learn your magic and u...

Re: How do you write a plot?

My process: 1. Brainstorm scenes I really want to write using flash cards or the digital equivalent (assuming I'll need 1 card for a scene, with scenes being an approximate wordcount length, and a certain number of scenes being required for each act). 2. Rearrange the plot cards so they start to mak...

Re: Handling Translation Requests

I wouldn't say 'ignore them.' I'm more likely to say, "We'd love to be able to offer translated versions of our games. However, we're a small indie developer and don't have the budget to do so at this time. Thank you for your interest and we're sorry we can't offer [Game Title] in [Language]." It's ...

Re: Tips for keeping track of large projects/highly branching games?

I'm really liking Zim Wiki right now.

It's great because you can drop text into any page. So I've used it for ren'py format dialogue before. It's also useful for keeping stuff like your story notes and marketing notes all in one place.

Fixed some broken links. Going to post again with Tell a Demon/Asher related news somewhat soon. If you haven't played Asher (my first game), it's also on Lemmasoft, here , and it's free. EDIT June 05: Not going to post again because we're still on the front page as of this writing, but did add some...

Re: Do you think there is a market for non-anime visual novels?

I think it's more difficult. And I say this as someone who made a commercial visual novel in a Western/kind of classical painting art style. I probably wouldn't make another pure visual novel unless I adopted a simpler character art style for it. I still like visual novels with different styles, qui...

Re: VN's for smartphones: Portrait or Landscape?

Landscape offers more flexibility if you're also interested in making the game available for PC users. Portrait mode can be useful- it can have a nice feel, esp. if there is a modern setting in which phone chatting might be a part of the story, and I believe some games leverage this theme. (Popular ...

Re: What's the right response to learning someone is playing a pirated version of a game?

Sometimes people port Ren'Py games unofficially to mobile - in some cases they already own the games, they just want to play them on their phone. Then they have problems because the games in question were not designed to work on mobile. But if you know of the site where the person illegally download...
