cintiq vs tablet computer with stylus: recommendations?

I've tried using a traditional Wacom tablet, but I'm having severe trouble coordinating what my hand is doing on the tablet with what's happening on the screen. What I really want is a tablet with a built-in display, so that I can see what I'm doing. The way I see it, I have two options: 1. I can in...

It's like Princess Maker and I Wanna Be the Guy had a love child.

Re: That Cheap and Sacred Thing - Drama/Sci-fi

I cried.
But the thing that will remain with me long after I've forgotten the rest of the story is the vision of that dead girl with her skull cracked open. That was a direct blow to my biggest weak spot.

This is now one of my favorite OELVNs. Love the art, especially the colors and the corpse paint on the knights of Utrecht.

Re: Kitten Crusade [NaNoRenO 2012][cat][sim]

I quite enjoyed this. So cute! Minor complaints: If I scout Yuri's house, then fetch her toy, then challenge her and win, then scout her house again, she refuses to join my clowder even though she is already part of it. Tristan had no story nor even a description, which makes him feel superfluous. I...

Re: Ren'Py 6.13 Pre-Releases

I've got a crash to report in the latest Ren'Py, immediately upon launching the tutorial from the launcher. See attached log file. Incidentally, other OpenGL programs run on my computer without a problem. Update: I've updated my graphics drivers, and Ren'Py no longer crashes. However, the crash is ...

Re: Types of Choices You Like

It should never be possible to "mess up" a choice. The player should never be punished for a choice. Any choice that leads to a bad end should obviously lead to a bad end. If the player makes a choice that leads to an unsatisfactory ending, that's your fault as storyteller, not the player'...

Re: [NaNoRenO 2011] - My Magical Cosplay Cafe (With proper C

Not bad, but it feels like a missed opportunity to me. A common problem in visual novels is that the protagonist tends to either be a inconsiderate jerk or a boring vanilla everyman. This visual novel manages to gloriously avert this problem in the awesome breakdance ending. However, this problem is...

Re: Erasing a character... and he never comes back.

Killing characters off is OK when it's done correctly, but it's easy to do poorly. For example: If minor characters die all the time but none of the major characters do, then it will seem like the major characters have plot armor, which can cause the audience to lose interest. Conversely, if major c...

Re: Ren'Py in the Browser

It's perfectly playable on my ancient PowerPC Mac Mini running Safari 4.1.3. Yes, there's some lag, but the lag is trivial compared to the lag on most other websites. Google images is virtually unusable due to lag on the same computer. Even my good computer has more lag than that when reading online...

Re: Does Many Endings Encourage or Discourage Players?

The purpose of multiple endings, IMO, is to personalize the experience. I play through once, making my decisions until I reach my personalized ending. And then I stop, because I've already reached my ending. The other endings belong to other players who made different decisions. Replaying to get the...

Re: Reasons for Game Creation Failure (and how to overcome?)

For me it's almost always a combination of these two: * Game longer than expected * Stuck in a spot So, to answer this question: What strategies can you use to overcome these issues? I rewrite. I redesign. I go back to the core concept at the heart of the game and ask myself how I would design the g...

Re: What do you consider to be good writing?

Good writing is invisible. When reading a well-written story, I forget that I am reading because I am so immersed in the story. When reading a poorly written story, I get so distracted by how the story is written that I can't focus on the story itself. Good writing is writing without mistakes. Bad w...
