Just finished reading Black Swan Green by David Mitchell (the guy who wrote Cloud Atlas). My god, I love it so much, although a lot of people probably wouldn't like it as much as I do. xD Currently reading Pirate Cinama by Cory Doctorow and Accel World by Kawahara Reki.

You develop an "original" idea by mashing two other ideas together. Or "recycle" another idea and twist it so it looks "original." Not all ideas came from the books we read, the shows we watch. Inspiration can pop in your mind when you're pouring coffee, or walking down a street, or go birdwatching....

The story can still work without dialogue, for artistic choice and/or for style. Basically, you're writing a story with reported speech instead of direct speech. Most people's advice is that if you want a memorable character, the character has to relate to the player/reader. Have something in common with them. Do they have the same interest? Do you feel the same way when they have their emotional moments? In my personal opinion (and probably a baaaaaad advic...
