Re: Getting in the games industry
Sorry. Remind me to actual read the post I reply to. I do take issue in the way you describe the testing job in such a simplistic way, though. I don't have any experience with testing myself. The game we've just released required some testing, but we only grabbed some students from the local univers...

Re: Getting in the games industry
I don't see the logic trail from someone who's job it is to walk up along the walls to find gaps in the collision geometry to someone doing actual development. Maybe working as a tester is a way to get inside the building and befriend some of the developers and get a job that way? Don't believe ever...

My first credited game and I want you all to play it
I've worked on many games before, but this is the first one that actually was released and had my name in the credits. It's called Aqua Moto Racing 2 and it's for the iPhone. It's a really fun water racer that should appeal to anyone who likes games like Splashdown and Waveracer 64. It's gotten grea...

Re: Getting in the games industry
I've been working in and out of the industry the past six years. I live in Sweden so it's probably easier to get a job here if you are qualified. For me it's never been hard to at least reach the interview stage. I disagree that you can get a job as a developer by starting as a tester. It can happen...

Re: Tips for noob tablet users?
Just know that your first drawing with a tablet will look like crap. It will be something new and strange, but it's a short-lived feeling. The tablet is only the interface, you still need to be good at whatever software you're using. Start with something you're already comfortable with and you shoul...

Re: New Ren'Py Stand-Alone code editor
A friendly advice from a fellow programmer: if you're already spending time on the icon, you need to reconsider your priorities dude. Most of my failed projects failed because I let myself get distracted by surrounding things rather than solve the core problem. I think you're understating the amount...

Re: Best Tablet to Use
If you buy a tablet for $40, you're not going to get the same quality or software support (drivers). If it's 10th the price, it's probably not as good. You're free to buy whatever you like, just don't expect a 40 dollar tablet to do the same job as a 400 dollar one. My recommendation is to buy the c...

Re: Best Tablet to Use
FYI I got mine from the wacom website directly. They offered free shipping and I got it directly to my door in three days. They accept Paypal, which is where my money were. I haven't used anything but Wacoms myself, but I've had friends who've used Trust tablets and other brands and they weren't ver...

Re: Ren'Py for iPhone. A lost cause?
I feel bad for Unity developers, btw. They're affected by the new rules too, right?

Re: Best Tablet to Use
edit: Your tablet may or may not come with some express / light versions of the software. Used models may not have the discs or the activation keys, so if you do not have Photoshop Elements, Corel Painter Essentials, Autodesk Sketchbook Express or one of their suited up versions, then it *may* be w...

Re: Best Tablet to Use
I just got an Intuos4 (M) last week. It's the sleekest device I've ever owned.
I have nothing but good things to say about Wacom's tablets.
I haven't used a Bamboo, but I have two older graphires that served me well. My first wacom (Graphire 2) still works.

Re: Ren'Py for iPhone. A lost cause?
lol iPhone is already too popular. And MS usually make a lot of error, at least at the beginning, in their systems. It's wouldn't do well. I don't have an iPhone. I don't know anyone who has an iPhone. I think their popularity is mainly restricted to the United states. But you're half-right about M...

Re: Ren'Py for iPhone. A lost cause?
It's a typical Apple dick move. They make arbitrary rules and everyone conforms to them, because they're Apple. People will do anything to get onto their billion dollar marketplace. As a developer I'm more excited about Windows Phone 7, because the development model is very very simple. Silverlight ...

Re: Question for people with completed games
It would make it possible, but that isn't necessarily generally true. If you used the OpenGL and had vector graphics, you could easily resize them to whatever screen size you wanted. But in the case of bitmap images, that advantage doesn't exist. You would have to resize the images anyway, or have ...

Re: Question for people with completed games
Depends on artist workflow For sure. That being said, where are my native 1600x1200 games? Sure, why not? Though at some point you need to start worrying about memory. Aside: The largest image I've tried putting into Novelty is 4000x5000 pixels. You can do it, but it eats up more than half my video...
