Re: Novelty - My game maker
So okay, I'm going to go ahead and talk about resources and content packs. Novelty uses an XML-based resource system. So whether it's a texture, an animation or a sound you have to define it beforehand in an XML-file. This is how it looks for a texture: <Resource type="texture" name="sumomo00" src="...

Re: Novelty - My game maker
There was a game I played that really inspired me to design Novelty the way it is. All of the dialog was presented either as floating text or in speech bubbles. It looked really neat and fit the style of the game perfectly. Dynamically creating speech bubbles using vectors is a bit overkill for me b...

Re: Novelty - My game maker
Well an engine that uses DirectX? A 2D "mini" game interface would be great with... you know... danmaku? Maybe with some alpha blending? Because Blitting is... okay but tricky. Explosion of alpha blended particles and magic circles or grand visual effects would be nice. It would help make the games...

Re: Novelty - My game maker
Mm. One of the things I was thinking when I was considering such a solution was that it would be the user who would be doing all the layout of said graph through drag-and-drop, 'cause I didn't want to be responsible for sensibly spacing and arranging a hundred little joined-up boxes. ;-) Having dra...

http://www.delicious-art.com/temp/nana.jpg This is the scene replay menu of a game called Nanatsuiro drops. It's the first game I've played that lets you can see the branching of the plot as well as where the good bits are located(after completion, of course). I can see two uses of visualizing the ...

Re: Novelty - My game maker
Thanks again for the kind words. It really fuels me to keep putting down the hours :D BellosTheMighty: I can definetly see the potential of adding add-on support. It's something I'll investigate eventually but it's not planned for the initial release. Otaku Dash: I studied game programming for three...

Re: Novelty - My game maker
Wow! You are a very talented programmer! That looks like a lot of fun! :) I'm so glad that there are more ways to make VNs. I know that I'm so programming-ly challenged that I find everything difficult, so people who can make things like these really amaze me on so many levels. Thank you ^.^ Other ...

Re: Novelty - My game maker
Dilettante: Yes, Novelty will be free. I didn't mean to give the impression that it's a Ren'py editor. It's a new engine written from scratch. Consequently Ren'py scripts won't be compatible at all with Novelty. But like I said in a previous post, you will be able to script stuff to make minigames, ...

Re: Novelty - My game maker
Quite amazing o_O... You can place things visually... you can use pixel values if needed... you give "roles" to text zones which is nice (does it mean we could have 2 different text boxes displaying the name for example?... as useless as this is). And the instant preview of what you've done is prob...

Novelty - My game maker
PyTom found me and pointed me to this forum. Let me just introduce myself. I'm 24 years old and I work as a game developer for a game company in south-east asia (although I'm european). Besides programming for a living I'm also somewhat of an hentai artist and about a year ago I decided to combine t...
