Re: How much to pay writers?
And, it's easy to estimate how long a story has to be based on the average size of a novel or short story, especially if you or the writer outlines the story. It doesn't matter what you envision, it's what you have outlined that really counts. Ooh, I see your point now. I guess I would have a gener...

If you don't mind me asking, did you buy the Background CG art? Or were those freeware material? Because I totally cannot navigate the site you linked  Those were beautiful backgrounds and I want to know if I have to dish out cash for them or not :P Yes, the backgrounds are not free and they'...

Re: Game Design School and the Path to Game-Making
I took a Game Design subject, not a full course. We had a textbook - Game Design Workshop by Tracy Fullerton. The subject was also done by correspondence so I didn't really have any classes or meet up with any of my classmates. But I think it was pretty useful because it taught me how to look at gam...

Oh wow. Thank you so much for these! I love incorporating minigames in VNs
Might use some of them in future games.

Re: Coursera - Free Online Python Class
This is great! I find that I spend a lot of time on the Python docs searching for how to use basic functions. I probably need a formal course in order to drill it in my head...
I just remembered that Codeacademy also offers a Python track.

Re: [Newbie] Programmer for Hire (Unpaid)
That's great! By doing your own project you won't be limited to what other people tell you to make. At least you'll have creative freedom and you can experiment with programming different types of gameplay.haichipuchu wrote:You just gave me an idea to make a ren'py version of the one I made at work xD
Good luck!

Re: How much to pay writers?
Thanks for all the input everyone! I just really wanted a ballpark value or rate to determine the total cost of a single game, to see if such a business would be viable. I don't think I'd be paying per word - to me it seems like paying a programmer per line of code! I don't know how many words it wi...

How much to pay writers?
Hi everyone, I've been toying around with the idea of making VN games for a living... but I'm still in the process of figuring out how much it costs to develop a game. My question is, how much would you pay a writer? How much should a writer charge? Artists usually display how much they charge for s...

Re: [Newbie] Programmer for Hire (Unpaid)
I suggest you just work on your own project and use placeholders for assets! That's how I learned Python (and Ren'Py) myself. I am a C# web programmer by trade but I found that working on something you're really excited about will motivate you enough to learn the programming language.

Re: Strong Characters?
I've just gotten my hands on this new Voltage game wherein your husband is cheating on you, but as payback you can have an affair with your hot co-workers/ex-boyfriend/bartender from the pub. I've only played one path so far and I know what to expect from Voltage games when it comes to heroines (as ...

Sorry guys, we're not actually dead yet... just in hibernation? Lots of personal stuff between then and now *cough*wedding*cough* ^^;
So I apologize for being gone for so long! Put it down as "What not do with projects/games"
Thanks for your patience, everyone!

Re: The Onigami House [NaNoRenO 2012][GxB][Mystery]
So sorry for being out of commission for so long @_@;; @Nebty: Cue-san is right, the sprites look the same because they're free sprites from the same artist, Tokudaya :) And Asuka and Kendall are the same sprite. @Veniae: Thank you! No, it's not going to be commercial... as much as we want to make m...

Re: The Onigami House [NaNoRenO 2012][GxB][Mystery]
May I ask how the status of the game is at the moment? It's not like I want to pressure you or something, I'm just curious about how far the game made it by now. :) Oh, I forgot... It's so coool, that there are so many possibilities in Chapter 1 to be greeted by the 3 bishounens... I mean, I can ge...

Re: The Onigami House [NaNoRenO 2012][GxB][Mystery]
Thanks Cue-san and Uruki-chan for playing! Uruki-chan, we are in the process of tightening up the script... and one of the things we're addressing is Kyoko's reaction to the news, based on players' feedback ^^ When we release the final game, Chapter 1 will be a little bit different to what we have i...
