Re: A Bouncy Character Introduction - (With Quick How To)

That code could still be simplified a lot:

Code: Select all

$ NUM_FRAMES = 36
image bouncy_girl:
  for i in range(1, NUM_FRAMES):
    "images/a"+str(i)
    bounce_speed
  repeat
Or something to that effect. No matter how many frames an animation has, it'll only take up a few lines of code.

First, I do think the original comment was a pretty rude thing to say, but I'm glad you apologized for it. I think this thread itself is pretty unnecessary though, but since you're asking a legitimate question I'll give you my answer. It's true that, with better budgeting, you can save money spent o...

Re: How do YOU organise your characters?

Call my approach simple, but I just have a folder called "Characters" and each character gets their own text file which I edit with Notepad. Each file contains all of the information about a particular character -- their backstory, personality, relations with other characters, a particular event I w...

Re: Different artstyles, storytelling and commercial viabili

Would anyone play a game with art like this? For free? What about as a commercial game - would you pay for a game with sketch-style art, considering there's much more art than in a traditional VN? If not, would you pay if it was a bit more refined, but still very simple and conceptual? Yes, I would...

Re: Linear Chapter in Otherwise Less Linear VN

I think you should ask yourself whether you're enjoying chapter 4 yourself or not -- maybe that's why you're so worried about what others might think about it. Depending on the actual content, I could see how a linear structure with some optional scenes could work. Or it could be better to do someth...

Content warning: misgendering, transphobia I just need to rant. I'm feeling really pissed off/invalid right now. So basically, I'm on this asexual group, and a post goes up about the different sexualities. Now, this post was slightly transphobic, I wasn't to bothered, nothing about it upset me to m...

Re: Diverse Character Dilemma

The concept of "representation" is greatly overrated, moreso in fiction. Suppressing what you want to write out of fear that readers would misinterpret your intentions is a form of oppression, too, except this one is mostly self-imposed. Why would you do that to yourself? I've had a hard time comin...

Re: Top examples of Kinectic vn?

I'm trying to get some inspiration on expectations for Kinetic novels. Does anyone have or know of any really well made ones that keep you interested in finishing the game? What are they like? Do they use mainly backgrounds and still images to tell the story? Are there sprites at all? I'm tempted t...

That's really cool! Using the visuals to show the angles is a nice touch. Wish I had this when I was taking Physics.

Re: Movie code not working

Firstly, lines 10-20 won't ever be executed, since max() will always return a number that jumps ahead to the other labels. So I'm not sure why those lines exist. Then, I'm not sure if this could be relevant but when you say "highest score wins" what do you do in the event of a tie? The way it is set...

Re: A Massive, Collaborative Visual Novel?

That idea seems to just be a thinly-veiled attempt at expanding the size of the workload to fit the number of workers, which is what I described before as something to be avoided. It doesn't really make things easier for anyone; it would be like making 20 short stories in one (assuming I interpreted...

Re: Diverse Character Dilemma

John Oliver once said this (look up "Corporations on Twitter" to remind yourself how bad screwups can be): "Your silence is never going to be controversial." Applying that advice to diversity in fiction, it means that if you think you are going to "get some things wrong", you should play it safe an...

Re: A Massive, Collaborative Visual Novel?

Having learned from previous attempts, let me say this: You can not, will not , and should not do this. It will only end in infighting, people talking shit behind each other's back, someone going power mad, and even threats thrown around. If you're lucky, you'll make one or two new friends. But oth...
