Re: Stupid Question

Like others have said, I'm not sure a visual novel where there are no graphics shown to the player is the best way to convey the story of a blind protagonist. For that, you're probably better off writing a book or pure text game, in which you're not removing any content. But I do think the idea of a...

Re: Fight Scenes and Violence in VNs?

First: What would be the best way to make fight scenes? Do you have any examples of good fights in Visual Novels? Anything that should be avoided? Is music necisary for a fight to be exiting? Check out how Rose Guns Days handles its fight scenes. It involves a minigame where you click the mouse on ...

Re: What do you want to see in VN?

Well, the OP didn't actually say they were in the process of making a VN -- just that they were curious about our answers to these questions. So even though these may not necessarily be what the OP wants to make, or even should make, I'm gonna answer honestly about what I'd like to see in a VN. What...

Re: "Dating Sim" with more then 'only Romance'

Totally agree with you. Lots of dating sims tend to focus on just the "dating" and not so much the "sim" and that completely ruins the experience for me. If you can make a game where the choices deeply matter then you'll have made one of the better games out there. By that I mean, focus on the conse...

Re: Is it worth it to "hide" long conversations behind choic

The existence of a choice between shots and beer implies that there is a significantly different outcome between the two. Otherwise, why give the option? The perceptive reader would deduce that by drinking the shots they could get drunk, and as you explained, gain access to more interesting conversa...

[Solved] List not saving until after next line of text

This one is hard to explain, and hard to think of a solution, so here I am. I've got an inventory system that makes use of a list of Items (a class). The button to access this inventory is available on every screen. From within the inventory screen, one can click on the Craft button to select certai...

Re: Any advice on creating a gender-neutral visual novel?

You can choose to focus the story on multiple characters, some male and some female. That way you've got characters the audience can relate to no matter who they are.

Re: NVL Fade and Variable Text Box Height?

1. Nope, that did nothing. 2. The bottom padding's number is arbitrary. Whenever the text exceeds one line, the textbox moves upward regardless of its original location. Also, the textbox is the size of the entire screen because its width is the size of the window width and it is essentially a trans...

NVL Fade and Variable Text Box Height?

So, I have two questions that I cannot seem to figure out on my own. Also, I have read lots of documentation, so I'm coming here as a last resort. 1. I am switching between NVL mode and ADV mode. Although the ADV textbox faded in, NVL textbox initially was instantaneous, so I adjusted the following ...

Re: Really Small Pond: How Do I Market Myself in this Niche?

The best way to market yourself is to find something that you excel at and continually improve in that area. You don't just want to say "VNs are my niche", but you want to find your own niche within this niche and make it your own. You could say my niche is mystery stories, or game programming. Othe...

This looks pretty cool; I'll look forward to playing it. 1. Seems like it has room for potential. I'll wait to play it to judge. 2. Can't say I have a favorite yet (maybe the mystery girl in the header image), but it looks like a good line-up of characters. 3. I really like the art and the animation...

Re: The making of a demo

Personally, my recommendation would be, rather than focusing on the number of words, is to play your own demo as if it was someone else's game, and ask yourself: based on this experience alone, would you want to see more of this particular game? A game demo needs to capture the player's interest rig...

Re: What defines a "visual novel" apart from other games?

Well I wouldn't be bothered...though some purists might be bothered...but purists get bothered by everything. However, I think you might be thinking about your advertising in the wrong direction. What I mean to say is, some of the most successful EVNS I can think of tend avoid marketing themselves ...
