Re: Stranded in/on X (no title yet, Survival Game/Fiction)
Cool. Incidentally, I was actually thinking of a military veteran being in the story as well when I was reading the original post. Like, he could be a person who was already on the island for years due to his plane being shot down in the war or something to that affect. As for other games with a sim...

Re: Stranded in/on X (no title yet, Survival Game/Fiction)
I like the concept :) . If you do happen to go for the stranded on a deserted island scenario, try to avoid the sinking cruise ship excuse if you can. Not that it's bad or anything, but after having played several survival games where the main characters miraculously survives when their ship sank be...

Re: Do you optimize your assets?
I pretty much use only PNGs in my project, if only because most contains transparency while others are for image quality purposes. As for music files, I am currently using Ogg, but I find that converting them to MP3 gives them a louder reverb effect as well as taking up less space for some reason (I...

Re: How long do you wait?
I usually just write it down somewhere and keep it as a reference. If I find it to still be appealing even after a week, I may find a way to work into my story somehow. If I can't, I just leave it alone for another project.

Re: How do you feel about protagonists with amnesia?
@saguaro 1. Yes I'm sure. He was written before I came up with the plot, as I tend to make the characters first in order to provide the foundation and a jumpstart for the storyline. So the plot was pretty much written with his condition and backstory taken into account as well as every other charact...

Re: Can you stick to your plot?
For me personally, I create a few rules that I mustn't break when it comes to realizing my story the way I intended it to be. Examples would be that my character needs to have gone through this situation, my other character has to do this in order trigger that, this event needs to happen, and then s...

Re: How do you feel about protagonists with amnesia?
Do you mind providing some examples of what to avoid? I can easily change them around if needed. Amnesia is pretty much necessary to the character and his development, which is why the symptom is lampshaded ahead of time and not because it happens at the start like the examples the Extra Credit vide...

Re: How do you feel about protagonists with amnesia?
I know they've been out for a long time, but what I meant was like a lot of them are coming out even more so than they did before. @Auro-Cyanide I agree with you there. Characters not worrying about their missing memories is one of my gripes about the trope, which is why I was careful in giving my o...

How do you feel about protagonists with amnesia?
Or protagonists whom were adopted? I've been seeing a lot of them popping out recently (Usually one or the other, but I remember seeing at least one who was both) and was just wondering how people out there feel about them. Personally I don't really have anything against these plot devices, but ofte...

Re: Different genres
Incidentally, those three you've mentioned are some of my favorite genres. Aside from those, I wish there were more psychological thrillers/horrors. Not just in visual novels, but in animes and video games as well. When They Cry (Higurashi specifically) is really well done, but I must admit that alt...

Re: [The Dreaming] v0.9 (Win/Mac/Linux)
Have not seen many visual novels (Let alone games for that matter) from this genre, so I will definitely give it a try because I am also making a psychological thriller as well. Will post my opinions later when I finish it

Re: Proper Use of Text Tags?
According to the help doc: The paragraph pause tag is a self-closing tag that terminates the current paragraph, and waits for the user to click to continue. If it is given an argument, the argument is interpreted as a number, and the wait automatically ends after that many seconds have passed. Anywa...

Thanks so much for making this tutorial
. Although I've pretty much learned to imagemap things on my own, I was able to learn some new things from this as well
