Re: Thinking of creating a YT Channel to Read and Support VN's - Good or bad?

I don't mind LPs of my games, and different perspectives are always welcome. What's making you hesitant to more forward with the idea?

Re: Has competition an engaging or discouraging effect on yo

The healthiest outlook is to think of it as competition with yourself. You want to be better tomorrow than you are today. That's really about it.

Comparing yourself to other people can be pretty damaging in any direction, and I don't know if it necessarily produces good results anyway.

Re: Trends in Visual Novels

Some interesting numbers, although I didn't expect horror to be such an unpopular genre. D: Thank you for compiling this!

Re: Putting together a demo reel

Ooof. A little late to the party, haha. Hope this is useful anyway. >____> -How many samples should I ideally have in the reel? What emotions are the most important ones to convey? A demo reel is typically a minute-ish long, which each sample being around ten seconds. Easy math says that makes six v...

Re: How to make demo's for voice acting

If you're not sure what your voice is good for, I'd recommend holding off on the demo until you can get comfortable with how you sound recorded. A good place to start is just to grab a book or manga and record yourself reading it out loud. Experiment with different voices for each character (even on...

Tools for Game Jams, Sprints, and other Projects

With NaNoRenO right around the corner, I've been thinking about the tools that might be used to keep track of work. For instance, the NaNoWriMo site has a word counter that lets you know how far you have to go before you hit your goal and how many words you have to write each day to get there. Are t...

Re: Getting over the fear of acting for the mic

If I recall correctly, Chuck Jones is known to have said "Every artist has thousands of bad drawings in them and the only way to get rid of them is to draw them out." The same is true of any endeavor. You could say every actor has thousands of bad performances in them. In other words, it's okay to b...

Re: The oh so vague and loose rules of NaNoRenO?

I vaguely recall something called IntRenAiMo, which runs alongside NaNoRenO, but was a tag used for games already in progress in which the month was meant to add an extra "sprint" of work to finish the project. I could, of course, be horribly misremembering.

Re: Full time developers

I'm obviously full time but a bit lazy about reading these threads lately :) Yay, Hanako Games ^_^ Are you still enjoying it? Do you ever go to game or anime events? I went to GDC a couple of years back but found it a little hard for VN devs >_< Although, there were a few cool writers I got to meet...

Re: Full time developers

I'm occasionally full-time? I have a second job but it's contract work only so sometimes it consumes my life, and sometimes I have several months of dead time with no work. I definitely need both of these jobs to make rent, so I consider dev to be more than a hobby, but it's not my sole source of in...

Self-promo ahoy.

Not exactly horror, but I think it's an appropriate short VN for Halloween.

Re: Real SMS or mail features in a VN

It's a fascinating idea. There's at least one company I know that sent physical mail to some of its customers like a small "Valentine letter" or something from one of the boys. SMS would be interesting if it could be integrated into the game in a meaningful way. Would definitely have to be up front ...

Re: Anybody interested in 2d animation for VNs?

2D animation in general is a huge interest of mine. I would definitely like to see more in VNs, even to a small degree. Years ago before Ren'py had ATL, I attempted to put together a series of minimal animations for a VN. It worked, but it was a terribly time-consuming process, so I shelved it, but ...
