[NEWBIE] Aligning screen labels

I'm still confused about how to format and align various elements in various places of the game; it feels like I need a different method for every place. hbox: label "blablabla" xalign .5 This works, but it places the left edge of the label text at .5 instead of centering it. How do I place the cent...

Re: [Tutorial] Customizing Menus

I know a saying: There are three ways of learning: By experience, that is the bitterest, By imitation, that is the easiest, And by contemplation, that is the noblest. I usually tend towards noble, then easy, but end up with bitter ;-) As for return, it returns the player to the previous location the...

Re: showing and hiding screens from inside other screens[SOL

Yes, it took me a while to notice it's the same with the "SetVariable" action. It's SetVariable('variablename',value) instead of SetVariable(variablename,value). Not sure why, but I guess that's true for all button actions.

Re: Screen ends when returning from a function

My head hurts, but I think I finally get what "curry" actually does... at least I hope so. It still needs time to set into my brain, and I really appreciate all the effort you put into helping me understand how it works. About the "value not changing" issue: I didn't check "day_action[active_day_act...

Re: Screen ends when returning from a function

Now I am confused. I can call curry functions with arguments, just not non-curry functions? If I do what you suggested, the buttons do nothing at all. They highlight at hover, but none is selected, clicking doesn't select them (which I'd have wanted to do next), and the value doesn't change at all. ...

Re: Screen ends when returning from a function

Thank you, I think I kind of get it... So currying effectively prepares a function to be used as an action, because I can't use function calls with arguments as an action? I changed it to SetVariable to make it easier... once I figured out I actually have to put the variable names in quotes. Then I ...

Re: Accessing Return() values

Thank you :D It's little bits of information like that that I miss in a lot of places.

Accessing Return() values

From the documentation: Return(value=None) Causes the current interaction to return the supplied value. This is often used with menus and imagemaps, to select what the return value of the interaction is. When in a menu, this returns from the menu. How do I actually access the returned value after I ...

Re: [Tutorial] Customizing Menus

So... how did all those people who know how to do it learn it themselves if there is no documentation? I can't even find what "Return()" as a button action does. I know it exists because I saw it in a script, and I guess that it closes the screen and returns "whatever", but there is no explanation a...

Re: Screen ends when returning from a function

Uh, I think you lost me there. First of all, the function you give executes immediately - when the screen is run, rather than when the button is clicked. You'll need to curry it (see the documentation for renpy.curry on the wiki) to make the semantics what you want. Why does it execute immediately e...

Screen ends when returning from a function [solved+]

I have this button on a screen: $ dummyname_a = action_name[day_action[0]] # necessary because of double array textbutton "[dummyname_a]" xminimum 200: action [setactivetimebutton(1), SelectedIf(activetimebutton==1)] I predefined the function "setactivetimebutton": def setactivetimebutton(buttonnumb...

Re: [Tutorial] Customizing Menus

I have a really hard time finding any tutorials or documentations on how to make entirely new screens instead of just modifying the style of existing ones. How to make buttons that you can select (instead of just click for a result), how to change the contents of text labels or buttons depending on ...
